    EDO Float Hatches

Just thought I'd post some pics for those guys in Alaska that would like some float hatches installed now that the floats are coming off. These installs are done at Big Lake by AMTS (Fred Johnson's Repair Station). Pretty nice hatches in my opinion.

EDIT--They also do float changes and storage

How large are the hatches? Doesn't look big enough for a fuel can. How much does the mod cost? I assume that this is a field approval done with a 337?

I got a similar mod done at Floats AK. The one I got is a Kenmore STC. The pics look to be about the same size hole. Can't fit a gas can, but it will carry:
    5 MREs
    1 Cofee pot
    1 Large Float Pump
    200 ft of 3/8 rope
    500 ft of parachute cord
    2 Camp Chairs
and plety of room to spare.
You can also put alot of fish in it, more salmon than two can legally catch in a weekend.

The cutout is 20 inches by 6.125 inches. Not big enough for a 5 gal can. I don't believe any hatches in 2000's are. The top deck is only so wide. These hatches are also approved for EDO 2870, 2960, and CAP 2000, 3000 model floats. Not sure of the cost but it is easy enough to contact the repair station if you get serious. It is done with a 337 with an FAA approved data spec sheet for the repair station from 1997. Just had my camera handy and thought I'd post the pics. These hatches have been around for quite awhile but not many folks know about them. I got to use them and was impressed. You hardly notice they are there. You can walk on them normally. You can get into them easily while on the float because of the way the lid swings. Quality of materials and work is second to none. Hope this helps.
