Gross Weight on PA18S-135 with float

I have a question that was put to me about the gross weight of a PA18S-135 (O-290)converted to a 150HP(O-320) using STC SA136AL and later floats where added.

The information concerning STC SA136AL deals with an engine change from 135hp to 150hp and i could not find information saying that the gross weight was increase to 1760 pound.

According to the type certificate 1A2 ( http://www.supercub.org/woe/pa18type.pdf ), the PA18S-135 had a Gross weight of 1474 pound.

By adding floats to a PA18S-135 with a 150hp, does the gross weight increase to 1760 pound...?

According to my paperwork, putting it on edo 2000's will raise to gross wt. I have PK1800's on mine, so I'm stuck with the lower weight.

At 1474 gross @ Edo 2000s if you weigh 200 lbs your are nearly overgross before you put any gas in it.

Few Cubs on floats leave the water below gross weight unless they are just going arround the patch.
Try having a passenger, required survival gear in Alaska, camping/fishing gear, food/water, belley tank. Then add enough fuel to go 150 miles or so and return.
....... might be getting close to gross?

I am not sure what STC you are working with and if it address the gross weight of the plane or just the engine upgrade? At one time I was told the 150 hp cubs came with a couple of extra ribs in the wings. I am not sure what else would be different but it would seem this alone if true, would affect your gross weight.

From what i have read about the STC SA136AL, its an engine change.
Nothing is said about reinforcing the structure of the wing.

You can check the description of that STC at:

    Good news...

After going thru the paper work from my friend's plane, it is quite clear now that the Gross Weight is 1760 lbs on floats and 1500 lbs for wheels or skis.

There was a very small piece of paper about the STC SA136AL that was misplaced with other papers in the log book. Pretty well the same thing as the Type Certificate 1A2. The Airworth Cert's also reflected this Gross Weight.

    Thanks guy for your help.
