Help Identifying a Part

Need some closer pictures and at different angles, however it looks as an intermediate crossover lever for flap wires.?

Is this out of a PA-12 with Flaps and came as a basket case?

It is the do-hickey that gets forgotten, and later on discovery of it requires complete disassembly to install.

It’s out of an -18. Something interior I think. I went to the trouble of priming and painting but I’m drawing a blank. I’m pretty sure it’s not a wing part.

It may be the bracket under the panel the control stick lock assembly bolts to. Maybe. That assy swings back and up then drops over the stick to lock it.

Edit: I see there's a couple of control locks under Optional Parts in UNIVAIR's PA-18 catalog p.171. One is with radio and the other w/o. Lock image below from CC. Not sure about the mount used plus there was a spring clip of sorts to hold it when not in use.

I have rebuilt 5 Super Cubs that had never been apart and worked on lots of others and have never seen that part.

Perhaps it was used to help hold up the aft end of a radio box under the panel?

I’m pretty good about keeping things organized and like parts with like parts. I’m sure this came out of this plane but I’m just drawing a complete blank. It’s something interior…….?

Well that control lock's ears mount to something under the panel. Could be existing tabs - could be a radio rack if installed - could be that bracket. Find a Cub with that control lock and have a look see what it swings from. My first PA-18 had a lock but that was 47 yrs ago so not knowing.

Front control stick lock, pretty common on earlier cubs. I removed them because they didn’t stay folded under the dash due to vibration. Dan’s aircraft made a nice little latch that mounted on the pilot seat and locked the stick.

Just finished disassembling a 1956 PA18A today….and didn’t see anything like that…

I agree with the others, might have held up the back of something under the panel. But, take a look at the front seat and see if someone had it bolted on that for some reason? DENNY

How was the control stick lock attached to the frame? Yes it could be a mystery part. There was/were/is a great variety of radio racks under the panel. The only PA-18 print I found was of the lock arm itself...no bracket print. Gonna' be a long winter so let's milk it for what it's worth.

Well this is all I can think of. The part in question is a section of aluminum compression fitting from a wing complete with AN3 inserts. It looks factory made and fits perfectly between the welded tabs on the frame. There’s nothing in the parts book in the way of pictures but it does call for several different part numbers for a control lock depending on radio options. With a 3” extended panel, the lock just clears the bottom of the panel. Never seen this before. If anyone has anymore ideas, I’m all ears.

Here is the factory radio rack my 1972 PA18-150 was delivered with. Note the bumps for control lock arms.
