My Airedale wears boots and a fleece jacket at -40F. When the sun rises in an hour we'll see how many wolves we can find and chase. First ice fog for the season in Fairbanks.
Beware, this cold is going to head south to Canada and the Lower 48 by week's end. Merry Christmas.
Chicken sits at some altitude near the junction of river valleys. Cold air flows like water and collects there. My friend Dick KL7B has been one of the wx observers and claims it's not that bad in winter because the summers are nice.
Santa's happy in Ellensburg, WA this morning. outside it's minus 6 F and 80% RH. Inside is 67 F and 4% RH. Down at the airport it's minus 18 C and density altitude is minus 2800 feet.
After close to 5’ of snow from three different storms, here comes the wind. Well, it’s been blowing for several days here, but Mother Nature’s supposed to turn up the velocity tonight. My dog will still expect to be walked. He’s loving this weather. Supposed to be in TX already but SeaTac put a restriction on pets through the 23rd.
Nothing compared to most of these other posts,
but the temps here in the Puget Sound area are about as cold as I've ever seen them in the 30 years I've lived here.
Currently 19F here at home, up from about 15 earlier this morning.
AWOS is reporting 16F at my airport (0S9), up from 9 earlier this morning.
Arlington (KAWO) is reporting 7F, clear & calm.
Bellingham KBLI is reporting wind 040 at 16G30, but strangely 16F degrees--
usually it's the coldest airport in western WA when the cold north wind is blowing down the Fraser river.
It sure was yesterday.
I guess I'm a sissy, but I'm looking forward to it warming up this weekend & going back to our normal temps in the 40's--
with rain of course.
Thankfully due to a variety of global weather forecast models the NWS informed about this cold outbreak. My wife ignores tomorrow so it's always a surprise.
Minus 32C here in s Saskatchewan, also 15mph wind. Cold. Best cold weather aircraft performance I have seen was in 1977. A Hercules taking off empty from sea level at minus 40C. Looked like a 500 ft run and 70degree departure. The twin otters at those temps seemed to levitate.
