SC with Dynafocal mount - engine clearance problems

The owner has spent the morning on the phone with CC, Lord, Airframes Ak, and Svenn's Aviation in Wi. Svenn had the most info so far. CC never built a mount for the STC, so this is a Rubik's cube of parts. The are 3 versions of the mount installed J-7402-1, -16, -24. Headed to see if he can do...

SC with Dynafocal mount - engine clearance problems

A friend bought a very nice looking SC recently. the rebuilder put a lot of experimental parts on it, that have been removed and replaced with certified. (waste of time IMHO) But the main issue is the engine and mount. A wide deck 160 hp 320 was installed using the STC from CC for this...

    Javeron Parts Availability

Like a few others I too have built a Javron Cub. I met Jay in person and worked with him for a week up at Breezy Point. Jay goes out of his way to make things right. Just like the rest of us he's human so sometimes it takes more that one try to get everything right. I got frustrated at times but...

Catto props experience 86x40 vs 84x45

Yes, I'm still running the 84x45. I've found it to be a very good all round prop for a 180hp cub. I currently have it on a 340 180hp experimental that I finished earlier this year. The O360 it was on was a stock engine, with a Sutton exhaust.

Brainstorming the Future of the Utah Backcountry Pilots Association

Perhaps you've already done this, but I'd recommend contacting Mark Spencer mspencer@azpilots.org as to what they are doing in Arizona. I know they have an active growing group of pilots and the website and newsletter are very nice. PM me if you like. Nelson

Just for Fun Configure this Engine Upgrade

I did this to attempt to understand how much of a difference the MS 4-5 carb might make on my 340. I'm reworking my airbox so I can see what the end numbers come out to. One thing to keep in mind is a static number is just that a static number. I will still need to flight test, but the numbers...

Just for Fun Configure this Engine Upgrade

I have a 340 in a Javron Cub that I finished earlier (March) this year. I have spent a lot of time working through the cooling issues of a 340 in a Cub (slow aircraft) Cub Crafters has many of the same cooling issues although it is very difficult to get them to admit any of it. (Maybe thats why...

    Fishing the Kenai

I'm in Soldotna right now. Staying in a cabin not far from the airport. Will be here until Tuesday, then headed to Palmer to take my wife to Anchorage for her flight out. Reds on the Russian are ok, so I hear. Right now all the locals say there are very few fish in the Kenai, no one fishing the...

    ECI/Titan 340 & Marvel 4-SPA carb

CHTs and EGTs are all within 100 degrees right now. I'm just used to seeing a dark grey/black in the exh pipe when running full rich. The comments fromECI about the carb have me wondering...

    ECI/Titan 340 & Marvel 4-SPA carb

EGTs at full rich are between 1190 & 1280 Since the engine is new, and it's getting run at 75% power and higher, the engine guys don't recommend running lean. When I have briefly leaned it in cruise, the egts come up into the 1400s

    ECI/Titan 340 & Marvel 4-SPA carb

I'm hoping someone has been through this before and has some words of wisdom. I am breaking in a new engine (and Cub) and have come across some interesting info on the ECI/Titan 340 (9:1 compression). If you order it with a carb, the standard unit is the MS 4-SPA which is the carb that...

    B&C Alternator field clip

Stewart, It's a new build, finishing up the wiring hopefully this week. The alternator is pretty tight but loosening the mounts and letting the engine sag in front I believe I can get the alternator off. Like yours the mag has to be removed... I talked to Jay, he is looking to modify his mount...

    B&C Alternator field clip

Installed the 1/4" spacers and ended up with 7/16" between back of alternator and firewall. I used a couple bare flag terminals and soldered the wires, then covered with heat shrink. New bolts on order...

    B&C Alternator field clip

Mount is the Javron, 2" lowered mount, by Jay... Have 1/4" and 3/8" spacers being made up today. Pictures to follow. Nelson

    B&C Alternator field clip

On the back of my B&C Alternator is the clip that holds the 2 field wires in place. In my installation I'm up tight against the firewall 1/4" clearance and there is no room for the clip. I am making some spacers to move the engine forward 1/4 to 3/8" to allow more room but I would like to have a...
