Firmin Cargo Pod (Alaska Bushpod) has arrived!

I have pod serial # 1 made by Bill Firmin. It came without a top and has worked fine. Don't worry about a small access hole in the top. it was his first PA 12 pod.

    Mixing avgas and premium uleaded

I had some 87 auto gas for my lawn mower and so mixed that equally with 100 LL and after two days no color separation appears in a clear glass jar.

    MI to AK

I would definitely opt for a tent rather than a tarp as you could have steady rain and once you are wet it is hard to dry things out and keep warm.

    carrying dogs in a Cub

That method was hard to put on and didn't work well with my new small pup. I got one of the padded neck braces which velcros around a human neck. I wrap it around and close the Velcro and she keeps it on. It does reduce the cockpit noise significantly.

    Bad ski bungees?

I used to have the bungees on my skis; I have always made it a habit to glance out of the windows to check my wheels or skis after each take off. One cold winter day I took off from a remote swamp and glanced out as usual. The right ski tip was hanging REALLY low; I pulled back slightly on the...

    Can you call a PA-12 a Cub?

It sort of depends on the PA-12... Many have cub gear, cub tailfeathers, cub flaps, cub gas gauges, cub trim wires, same Borer prop, same big tires, same engine, the wings are almost identical, and mine even has an N # ending in N like the 'cubs"...

    Best intercoms for a cub?

After my second Softcom gave me problems (over many years) I checked with my mechanic and he recommended the PS engineering intercom, wired through the radio (I have Icom). I had that installed;it was pricey when the wiring harness and installation were included, but is far better than anything...

    Baby Bushwheel tire pressure

Any play in the tail wheel mechanism will show up more with a larger tail wheel. I would check it all over for the possibility of a need for some new parts. I think that will be the bigger factor on the 'play' which you are experiencing.

    Alaska Overhaul

I had mine done at Precision Plus and didn't take very long and was well done. That being said, some parts will need to be shipped out and back.

What's the weather like in your neighborhood?

It depends on how big my neighborhood is.. I live in AK and the state is really big and spread out. Yesterday the high was in Dutch Harbor and it was +46 F; several places in SE AK were near that. The low was -56F and was in Ft Yukon and several places in the interior were close to that.....

cub been in the family for 39 years..part of the family:)

I guess that I am one year short. I have been flying my 12 for 38 years at present. The last few years my daughter has also flown it a fair bit. She first rode in it as a passenger of about 1 year old. Now on a couple of occasions she has dropped me off and picked me up elsewhere after I...

    header or not

I have had my 12 since '75 with ho header and I like it that way. I have the two valve shut off system. I have heard, over the years, of pilots taking off with the gas turned off, using the gas in the header tank and then crashing when the header ran out of fuel. If I start to taxi with the...
