How about adjusting the linkage to give you less aileron droop. that way you can keep the system and lesson the effect. I think I would start with the outboard bellcrank, the one the overcenters to pull the aileron back up at the 40 deg.
So... tell me why you would not want to use less flap in a heavy crosswind??? Can't tell me every landing is on a postage stamp. By the way I know exacty how a robertson sysyem works, just about every cessna i have flow has had it. Can display log book if you like.

Find a grass runway that you can put some markers out, and start practicing, keep moving the cones to show your shortest and keep trying to beat it.
When you get comfortable move to a runway with a 50' approch obstical, and practice some more.
