Some stations are attended and some aren't. Some are attended certain hours. Always best to check the Flight Supplement. Dawson Creek CYDQ for example is a remote station answered by Peace River as there is no Flight Service Specialist (FSS) on site. As Tedwaltman1 says, call 10 miles back from...
Since Mackenzie is in BC and was a "planned" community set up on Williston Lake to take advantage of the vast forest resources there BCRail which was crown owned was granted large tracts of land for terminals and for location of facilities like mills that used the railway. These operations...
Lots of BTUs in the back seat with the Atlee Dodge rear seat setup hooked up to a Leading Edge Exhaust system. Would recommend high heat scat hose as it does put out serious heat. -35C not a problem. Wind lace around the door and window is a problem in most cubs as it doesn't seal very well...
Seems to me that there is an STC for -18s from Day and Night for extended ailerons with the tips. An extra hinge needs to be added and gives about 16" more aileron with flaps in original position.
I think De Havilland built a few aircraft in Canada. Some bush utility sort of stuff that is actually still being used. Now go to the store and buy a razor. Get the clerk to unlock the display for you as most places have them locked up now that the manufacturers moved production offshore and you...
I think you're right about the sweatshop labour issue. Now lets see if the prices go down. Probably not too many of those workers ever likely to buy anything new let alone any kind of a Cessna. There have been a few wage earner union types here save enough to buy an old airplane of some sort...
good beef
We have been buying 4H raised steers at their local auction for several years now. Money seems high, but when you consider it goes to a farm kid to pamper a bone headed steer and then show it at halter with a bunch of others and then get it carcass graded it is a good thing. Helps...
I haven't had any luck calling them so far, busy signal, but maybe they are like me and are on dial up with one line. Good thing ADSL is working at our office. I'll keep trying.
skis and Atlee Dodge Ext Gear
I had the same deal as you had and found out that I really had Airframes gear with AD shock struts which aren't totally compatible. the airframes shock struts are a bit shorter and will fix the stance. I just put my Aero 2000 skis on and during a bit of hangar...
Hello.
In northeast BC and the Yukon you have Dawson Creek, Charlie Lake, Watson Lake and Whitehorse if you are following the Alaska Highway. You might have to get fuel in jugs at Dawson Creek as they have an automated setup there. People are usually around. Maybe Watson Lake as well.
exhaust system
I don't know if there is a horsepower difference as I never flew this airplane in any other configuration. I flew another 150 with stock exhaust and a borer prop which didn't perform nearly as well as this one with the 160 and a Sensenich twisted to 51 with the LEE system.
Ron Sullivan's STC is the only one that I'm familiar with and it is two weld on tabs to bolt the belt ends to and a lightweight cross brace welded in the front baggage compartment floor. I sent the drawings and the paperwork to the guy that jigged and repaired my fuselage at rebuild and he...
exhaust system
We have a Leading Edge system with 275 hours with no leaks, good fit and lots of interior heat and rear seat heat. Other than waiting a while for the STC I think it was a good buy. I think someone dynoed an engine with one and there was some HP gain. We had an old system that...
Hello Fireball. We fly in northeast BC at -40C on occasion. Out of hangar for tours and back in after. Went out Sunday at -22C after preheating overnight and just be gentle on things like anything else in the cold. You should be able to slip into your short strip and keep temps up with some...
Hello Mike.
I don't think you're a wimp. Anyone can live nearer the equator, you have to be tougher and smarter to brave the colder climates....... Or that is what I tell people who suggest otherwise. The Darwin theory of evolution comes to mind as well. Hopefully you get it sorted out. Nobody...
