I have carried the really fat tired snow bikes on the struts with no problems. I run mine up the strut this allows me to bungie both wheels to the struts which i feel is much more secure. You can haul just one or one on each side they both fly well.
Hey Guys,
I am not a big poster but have been thinking about this for sometime and thought it was worth posting. I am relatively new to flying (4 years) but am getting about 400 hours a year between my 185 and cub. Paul Claus helped me get started and has been a great mentor and wealth of...

Hey everyone if you haven't gotten Loni's new video you are really missing out! The filming on this one is fantastic, it really catches the beauty of Alaska! I really like how much you can learn by watching Loni's videos, this one would make a great Christmas gift!

I have a 62' 185 that was stone stock when I purchased it. I bought the airplane to haul a load and was really disappointed. I figured if I didn't do something soon it would end in a bad way. I stripped the interior out installed the Atlee jump seats, replaced the IO 470 with a 550, wing X...
You are correct about the requirements however I drove my experimental cub home to Alaska in April and was unable to get coverage so I didn't and no one asked.

"Last real deal of man living in the Wilderness here in the US"
Dick's story is wonderful but there are quite a few old timers still out there. One lives off my lake about a mile. He is 85 and lives alone. He has no electricity or light plant (as he would say) no running water and uses a...
I have never flown a Helio but believe it to be a superior STOL aircraft to the 185 which I do own. When I was shopping for a pickup truck (bigger aircraft) I bought a 185 for basically one reason...no matter where I go in Alaska I can find parts and get back in the air, with the Helio good...
Interesting thread, especially since i have been using my Honda 2000 to preheat the 185 all winter. In the cub i use the small Coleman with the 1lb propane bottle. One bottle lasts two nights and is very light. At my cabin it is often minus 30's and i have been using a car interior heater in...

Ok, so here is the weight story for the new B&C SD-20 alternator install:
Old Alcor Alt with brackets: 11.05lbs, New Alt with accessory drive: 6.10lbs. Net off of the nose: 4.11lbs.
B&C Starter: 10.05lbs, New SkyTec starter: 8.00lbs. Net off nose of ap: 2.5lbs. Total wt savings between new Alt...
I will be installing my SD-20 tomorrow and will let you know exactly the weight difference between that and the front mount Alcor. Also I will be removing the belt pulley from the flywheel which may save a little.
The thing I have not heard anyone say is that pulling the belts off a V8 car...
I have moved my alternator to the back of the engine and want to get rid of the pulley on the back of the flywheel. Do they make a flywheel without the pulley or do I need to take it to a machine shop?
Thanks,
H
