I’m seeing it now Marty. Those four vertical elements are not the rib but rather create a support for the tank lid. I had considered your solid floor in the tank bay but had PA-18 tanks so just fabricated the drag tube through the tank. Nice work. That mahogany’s sure pretty. I had built a...
Marty…A quick question hoping not to show my ignorance. I’ve built a couple sets of wood wings and always trussed and faced rib #3 just like the butt rib. Is there a reason that you elected not to?? Just curious.

For whatever it’s worth I completed a Wag plans sport trainer a couple years back. I used a stock L-4 fuselage, a Wag Aero J-3 boot(without the gas tank hole) and a PA-11 windscreen. It fit fine. Never looked back. Bottom of the windscreen is only an inch or so aft of the top cowl.
Hope this...
I’ve just completed a plans built PA-18. Bought the fuselage (PA-18A) and kept adding things until I had a basic PA-18-95 with the 0-290 D2(50 SMOH), Wag Aero wood wing and no flaps. Got 57k in it and no labor included. Only receipts. 2500 hrs and 2 1/2 years. Scratch building isn’t cheap!
We’re 14° this morning with three inches of snow and still snowing east of BIL. We too will be 0° or lower tomorrow morning. The geese went by headed south about three days ago which I thought was a bit early but guess they got the wx report!

Was laying down the wet coat today and a wasp landed and tracked through it. How long need I wait before buffing and is there any guidance for buffing Stewart’s topcoat?

U-2…..Having built a couple Wag Aero all wood wing sets, I thought I might chime in here. The J-3/L-4 now flying with the W/A 12 gal tanks weighed 775 EW (electric 0-200) and the wing weighed 69 lbs. Just completed a set of wings for install on a SCub fuselage and they weighed 72 lbs with the...
That would be a fun airplane. This one is a SC fuselage but stripped all the flap hardware (almost 5 lbs). The wood wings with the 18 tanks came in at 72 lbs each which is only 3 lbs heavier than my exp J-3. Stripped the Prestolite and replaced with a B&C and removed the generator(12 lbs if I...
according to this thread, it apparently doesn’t matter. However, I’m currently building a SC with an 0-290D2 and I’m hoping to come in at 900 lbs. I may be dreaming. Just finished an 0-200 J-3 (Wag plans) that came in at 775. We’ve got a stock PA-18-150 here at the ranch and I’ll guess that...
The Bearhawk has always interested this long time Cub builder. The Patrol with the 0-360 should be a great performer. But…..does anyone know any of the particulars of the Bearhawk that shed a wing about six months ago in NW Montana? All I’ve heard was that the pilot was not current which is...
If you use a bias tape around a corner, just be aware that the width will shrink considerably. Otherwise, it lays down nicely.
Just my 2 cents,
