When I was in high school and college an F-19 was THE plane I wanted. Good legal useful load, nice size baggage, electrical system, and 30 years newer than my first BC12D. With a 1500lbs gw it shouldn’t be hard to configure an F-19 with a 550lb or better useful load while sipping on 4.5-6gph...
So what happens when you’re making a low pass over the only gravel bar big enough for many miles to haul out a moose, and your buddies are standing off to the side?
I’m partial to Bristol Bay, some of the best fly out float plane salmon fishing that exists. It’s really hard to go wrong anywhere in the state though. Katmai is really popular with tourists, it can be done as a day trip depending on where your starting point is.
Isn’t the correct answer both:lol:? It seems like no two 170 or -12 is set up the same, so an apples to apples comparison might be difficult. A 170 will probably have the legal useful load edge over a 12 properly set up for real off airport flying.
Having very minimal experience in both, if budget is no issue, I’d say a 160HP cub. Still a lot of fun to fly (aren’t they all?) but you have the versatility to carry more when needed.
I might be biased, but I think Alaska would be. Except this time of year things are slow, so it might not be a good time to sell here. Planes start to pop up for sale again in the spring.
Thanks everyone. I forgot to add that my wife (whose 5’ 0” on a bad hair day) is excited to fly again. She claims she can’t see over the panel of the Pacer AND reach the rudder pedals. Here’s another try at uploading a picture.
I have been lurking on this forum since I was 15 when my family moved back to AK and my dad bought a Super Cub. I believe I officially joined when I was 16. I had always been into aviation, but Cubs immediately fascinated me and I was hooked. When I was 18 I went in on a 65hp Taylorcraft with my...
There are too many reasons to list really. On a practical level it gets me to or from our fish camp in about 20 minutes, which would be an all day venture in a boat. It takes us on adventures that are only accessible by air. I do it as a job because everything else sounds boring. It also focuses...
Cub Crafters has done a couple raffle Cubs in the past, the last being a Sport Cub I believe. I don’t mind out of state folks buying raffle tickets since the money goes towards advocacy for Alaskan aviation.
