Lycoming 0-320-A2B Running Rough & Hot

Is this a STC heat system? I’m thinking about running scat tube from the output opening along the floor to the rear edge of the pilot seat. Not sure how I will attach it. My feet get really hot and the PAX don’t get enough heat. Thoughts and suggestions appreciated! Robert

    Basic Slip/Skid Indicator (Inclinometer)

I installed this slip indicator yesterday in an available hole. I wanted to move the clock/timer/USB to that spot and put the slip indicator dead center but that would have but too much strain on the wire to the clock. I think it will work fine where it is. Robert

    Basic Slip/Skid Indicator (Inclinometer)

Please explain why centered is important. Doesn’t the entire airplane slip or skid at the same rate? I remember my early days in side by side seating planes where the indicator was well left of center. If you mean up near the top of the panel where it’s easy to see, that is a great...

Avoid Probate for your family Cub?

We have a Revocable Living Trust to simplify the transfer of our assets after we both die. My parents had one and it worked smoothly without probate or legal issues. All our major assets are titled in the trust with us as trustees. This includes bank accounts, investments, our home, cars AND the...

    Portable fueling ladder ideas?

In 2012, I bought a GP Logistics 6’ folding ladder to use with my slide-in truck camper loading sea kayaks. It folds to 3”x 4.25”x 6’ and is aluminum so about 15 lbs. I’ve wondered about fitting it into the cub or fastening it to the wing struts. I bought it at Camping World but I don’t see it...

    I-pad / I-phone over heating time out

I also strap my iPad to my leg. Sometimes the glare from direct sunlight makes it hard to see so I use something under the front edge to tilt it. I tried a folded map or a small hand towel which work ok. I’m making a small hard foam wedge from leftover sea kayak customizing. I can round the...

    Minimum altitude and ATC

I agree that ATC doesn’t have the authority to allow a pilot to break any FAR. Several times approaching OAK (Oakland, CA) in a jet the controller told me to speed up after I slowed to 200 going BELOW class B. When I asked to verify I was below class B, their next call was to the aircraft behind...

    Mogas for 0-320 160hp

I have the same engine and asked Petersen Aviation for the requirements in the STC. The response is copied below. There are no restrictions that I know of regarding mixing auto fuel and 100LL but as you noted, avoid ethanol. You will probably want to get a tester to check for ethanol. Robert...

How to figure out Alaska weather (and other interesting stuff)

Are you willing to give a short tutorial of how to download maps in the correct format? I tried using USGS TopoBuilder and got a PDF. I loaded it on ForeFlight but it doesn’t work like your mbtiles do. I want to upload topo maps for Idaho. I used my GAIA app which helps but it will be better to...

    Oops, darn it...

Jack screw AOPA has a good description and photo of the Jack screw. There’s also a diagram of the recovered parts of the accident DHC-3. https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2022/october/25/ntsb-updates-investigation-of-fatal-otter-accident?utm_source=ebrief&utm_medium=email

    Oops, darn it...

The AOPA article quotes the NTSB - “witness accounts are consistent with a flight control malfunction”. More NTSB quotes in the article. The Emergency AD has a 3 day or 10 hour completion requirement.

Emergency AD DHC-3 FAA Issues Emergency AD for DHC-3 Otter elevator auxiliary spar. Interesting to note that the FAA already published a notice of proposed rule making of a similar nature on February 8th and that’s based on a Transport Canada AD dated 1/19/2018. They’re still reviewing public...
