Was talking w/BWI rep as the NO Ski just email came down We were taking about confirmation of ski coverage. She opened it and advised that off airport would still be covered, but no Skis. Global was the underwriter and had been for the past 4 years.
Tach cables can be a challenge. Had the seal on the engine end fail during a flight. Lucky I was close to home. It is amazing how hot the oil is that augers up the cable . .out the tach and on your left leg. Couldn't get my leg on the other side of the stick fast enough. Landing was interesting...
Thanks to all for your input and fast response. It is good to have reinforcements of some of the things I have been pondering about the issue. Seems as far as the "temp unit", the gauge would not be significant/use full . . unless temp & dew point is the 3-5 point spread. Much appreciated. Larry
Looking for experience with Carb Air Temp Gauges. Have a 0290D-2 in the cub. This particular engine sure seems to make ice. So far carb heat has kept it going, but would like to minimize the surprises. This engine doesn't give the normal slow drop in rpms, but just suddenly coughs and then the...
Have attempted -2- times to renew and get copies of some things, using address on web, and then a different address . .off the news letter. Each time sending a new check. To date neither cashed. Left messages on the phone answering system a number of times. Zip . .Nada. Too bad. Oh . .and...
Since we are on "Check Rides" . it took 9 mos before they could come up with someone to do a "Med Check Ride" in the Super Cub. About as basic a plane as there is. Kept trying to get me rent a different type aircraft (non tail wheel). Said if it was a Citation they could have it done in a few...
2 owners before us, PA-18 (C-90) towed single place gliders out of Batavia, Ny (GVO). in the mid 60's. Elevation is a little over 900'. The Sensenich metal prop was supposedly re-pitched to climb spec and stamped accordingly. In latter years (prop incident) learned that prop wasn't as marked...
On my bucket list since I started flying 50 years ago. Went on Saturday and was not disappointed. Just disappointed I waited so long. Lite winds . .. so had the opportunity to see "The Spirit" fly. A much shorter takeoff "run" than I was expecting. He landed it slow & short. You'd never know...
If they leave (the side sliders) it is something one doesn't forget. One hell of a "Bang" on the left . .thought the left spar failed. The pucker factor was somewhat high. People on the ground saw it, but didn't hear it. Said all this "sparkly stuff" floated down. Sounds crazy, but at 1st I...
I just sent a check to BWI. They are writing it through Global Aerospace and are covering off airport & ski operations. Had been w/AVEMCO for past 30+ years. They offered better coverage (incl. hull) and were nearly $250 less. Hope I don't have to "use it". Larry C.
I had a conversation with the late Frank Swinehart, Sr. regarding the same fittings that our 59' had, when it left Lock Haven w/ a C-90. Frank had been the lead welder on the Super cub line for many years. He said in late 50's/early 60's there was only -1- line for the frames Common practice...
If you mean the housing that holds the oil, has the eng. mod/ser. plate, and the carb is bolted to it, I have one. It has the tubes installed, was inspected (Zyglo) & found satisfactory. Copy of work order upon request.
Last evening played back a message no aircraft owner should ever get. "Larry . . my name is Greg _ _ _ _ _ _. I am in Ohio. Calling to let you know I have found your plane . . . .as I'm sure your have been looking for it. It is a Piper PA-18 . . .white w/red trim . . with the numbers N3419P . ...
Yes, it is hard to beat hp.The following for perspective: In the early 60's our C-90 PA-18 used to tow single place gliders out of Batavia, NY. A "90" can be respectable, if you use common sense and don't fill it w/36 gals. Our farm strip started out at 600'. There are power lines under a set...
Thanks for the "true" install time Bill. I have a covered gear and it could get interesting doing the welding for Trickairs, (not saying it hasn't been done)
Glen, if you could keep us posted on the field approval for the PA-18. Is the "11" & "18" through the same FAA region office?
