Are guys/gals happy with the B&C alternator?

Speaking of clearances, does anyone know of a shorter filter to run on a o320 pa18 setup so you can run the stock lycoming donaldson (cheap) filter base?

Engine Stumbling real bad on go arounds.

I had a customer run into a carb acting up, well we figured it was the carb, we overhauled it. Then same issue, chased about 10 other things it could be. Then I said screw it and changed the carb off of another that was known to be good. Problem went away. I figured it must have been something...

Are guys/gals happy with the B&C alternator?

The 8 amp gen is nice, I am trying the monkworx on the next build though, super tight clearance and the B&C ones I am used to will not fit but I need more than 8 amps.

P-STOL Flaps on a Javron Cub

I stand corrected, it is 3003 as said before, interestingly like said before it behaves different from the 3003 I buy and use for non aviation purposes. I too have not seen anyone have issues screwing pks into javron leading edges. A few friends I know apply stewarts glue or other various glues...

    Black airplane?

Talked to the polyfiber guys at the factory, they said the darker blues and greens are worse than grey for heat, if the tapes are applied with multiple precoats of polybrush and properly glued down it negates a need for preshrunk tapes except for a black airplane on a hot day. They said plenty...

    Black airplane?

Do you remember what the outside temp was? I went and shot my IR gun at some black cubs here in wasilla on a sunny 65 degree day and the wings were 135 degrees, ailerons 150, horizontal 115, elevators 130, rudder 130 also, fuselage 115. I measured a red cub, temps were only 5 degrees cooler...

P-STOL Flaps on a Javron Cub

Lots of javron wings used in mackey style builds with way bigger flaps than any pstol setup ever imagined with no issues. Front and rear spars reinforced at lift strut attach, leading edge javron stock. The stuff jay uses is not 3003 its something else like said before. Definately not 2024 I...

    Black airplane?

Has anyone here actually had first hand knowledge of polyfiber tapes shrinking in AK with the darker colors? Lots of people I ask say they have had no issues but have no memory if they preshrunk the tapes or not. Most solar absorbivity charts I see dark green and blue might as well be black for...

    4-Place Super Cub

Firewall is 90 degrees from long axis, and fuel tank straps either the stuff from the spruce catalog or 3m scotchrap. Double check the airframes strut blocks did not gouge the strut when they installed them. Friends blocks had sharp corners and had a burr pushed up upon close inspection with...

Anybody go to the Airmen's Show this last weekend?

Photo. Overall it was pretty good and has some neat features. Fuel lines at dogleg cross tube were just laced at the fittings up tight to the fuselage tube for securement. The rest of the airmens show seems to be getting smaller every year, any one else notice that?

Anybody go to the Airmen's Show this last weekend?

Not to nitpick but there was some questionable assembly practices on that cub, example being the fuel fittings having thread tape on them out of the gascolator and the fuel flow sensor being hard mounted on an aluminum nipple straight out of the gascolator.

    Removing Horton STOL for Sportsman?

And Spikes doesn't even have VG's either.. As he and others say, buy gas. No reason to tear off airworthy mods.

    Flap/Aileron Extensions

Has anyone with the 15 inch javron ailerons had any issues? Do the 17 inch sq ailerons go behind the stock trailing edge spar or is it moved forward like the super deep chords on the latest sq12 builds?

    Sutton Exhaust and heater woes

You guys not flying with noise cancelling headsets? Never noticed the noise on any exhaust setup and I have been in most setups and combos out there. The sutton exhaust is well known for great heat, something is plumbed wrong or its not getting air.

    Rear Seat Tubes

Cut the tubes off and check the vertical tubes for corrosion. Seen lots totally corroded out at the junction to the pillars. Fix and weld in new ones, leave the holes out. If using the holes weld plugs 1/4 inch in from the ends of the seat tubes to prevent any water from getting to the main...

    Elevator and rudder bushings

I just use an extra long bit or reamer with pliers. I just installed some a few days ago, no way the pin was going in after pressing them in. They must squeeze down more now days, because I remember years ago just having to firmly push the pins in and they were good to go.

    Yes, another Javron cub

I used the standard 3 inch wide clotch on a roller aircraft spruce sells. Went 8 layers deep, just rolled and padded the cloth together. Came out about .125-.140 thick, some hand sanding when done and wiped a skim coat of the beads and voila, ready for primer. Sure its a little heavier then...

    PA-12 U channel bracing

Yes still in use everyday and every build pretty much. If your experimental, make your own 3/8 ×3/8 0.025 thick 4130 channel, way way better than the stock stuff. If you make a 7/16 channel it is way easier to rivet nutplates into.

    Inboard wing rib cover.

Im leaving mine uncovered, everyone I know leaves them wide open. No wing root panels even on the fuselage. The fabric can be folded around the bottom rib some. Some air does make it through the tank filler hole and flap bellcrank though.
