Yes, not seeing the wings was always disconcerting - all kinds of (mostly bogus) rules of thumb or wags - lining up the wiper blade bolt with the taxiway lights - many of them to know where the wheel trucks were to keep from driving them through the grass - the wing tips are another whole ball...
Yeah, and it doesn't 'seem' as soft as the interior panels I have that are 3003 - although I've managed to put a few dents in my leading edges without much effort. I think I will need to use Poly Fibers SuperFil before covering.
Awesome! Love McCarthy - but last time I was there we had to pull the hanging cart across the river by hand to get into town - that was a long ago. I am for sure flying in there when this Super Cub I am building gets done (hopefully by next summer). Looks like a great adventure.
Just got off the phone with Jay. With over 300 sets of wings out there and guys hanging all kinds of crazy flaps and leading edge devices on them, there was never a problem with twisting - but he did know exactly who was making the claim and it sounds like improper rigging. He also confirmed...
This is an interesting thread with a lot of good thoughts. I am hoping for a positive outcome soon. I'm thinking the single rudder pedal spring fix may be it. At least those are easy to get at and replace... ;)
Nice. I've been using mostly PA-CF (bambu labs) the nylon with carbon fiber and it comes out looking really nice. I made my front and back stick grips with electric trim and PTT - that right there nearly paid for the printer. But I've made cable guides (not with the CF, too rough, just nylon or...
Another option for the nut plates (recommended by Jay I believe) that avoids all the little rivet holes is to glue them into the channels—explained here in this thread by another Javron builder. You can also use square nuts glued into the channel instead of the nut plates.
I know a couple (he gave a presentation at a public EAA chapter meeting three days ago) - They got the sign-off from the DAR on their Kitfox the Wednesday before Oshkosh. The first engine start was the next day, Thursday. They had some electronic glitches (Garmin) so all day Thursday was used...
It would not be 'that' hard to add the floor (first) and then the side panels on a finished airplane. I wouldn't stuff things back there that could get caught in control cables. I have the full extended baggage in my Javron - if I got one without it installed, I would definitely NOT install it...
Understand life challenges. Thanks for all the good information you have passed along.
Enjoy the AK trip - but you can't keep Jay there that long (wink) :)
Ha.. yup silly myth that will never die. He mentions that he will discuss the 'illusion' and conditions of why the 'believers' have been misled in the next issue.
