Why do you say Hampton Roads? Do you think that would be cheap or is there another factor? I used to live around West Palm Beach so I am familiar with the part of Florida you mentioned but I don’t have contacts.
Help. I am planning to bring my Supercub back from Europe and I need to plan for a place to ship in to reassemble, repair, and inspect the airplane. I am looking for a recommendation so I can start figuring out the plan. I am open to a location as long as it is relatively close to a port of...
Hi all,
I am in a situation where I need to move from Europe to the US and I want to ship my Supercub. The plane is a US registration plane. I have seen the posts about how to pack up the plane and those are nice. What I need help with is finding out how to manage the shipment, customs...
Is the Firman (Alaska Bushpod) Certified on floats? Does it fit with the float rigging? I have heard that the Airglas is certified on floats and does not interfere with the float rigging. I read somewhere that mods needed to be done to the Firmin pod to fit it with float rigging.
I happily purchased the Borer STC from Cubcrafters (SA00562SE) for my PA-18-150, but then I became aware that Dan’s Aircraft has a Borer STC (SA02170AK). The Cubcrafters one is from 1998 and Dan’s is from 2001. What differences are there between the two? Is one less restrictive than the other...
He didn’t try landing on water. He had a takeoff and loss of power due to incorrect fuel selector setting as a result of not following his checklist. I think it is great to see this and a diagnosis from the person who causing. Checklists and procedures need to be followed. Distraction is...
This is a video from yesterday of Carbon Cub nose over in a river. The pilot really takes full responsibility and dissected his mistakes which is great. A lot can be learned. For what it’s worth, the production quality of the video looks great.

I was watching some of the 10 year anniversary videos about the Carbon Cub. Obviously it is awesome to have such a great plane continually improved as the Carbon Cub is along with a great kit and good support.
My question is, what makes a Carbon Cub like the EX-3 version that is out now so...
Not exactly a NTSB report but we can learn from other countries as well. The link below is to a Dutch midair between two Supercubs while training for formation flying. Sad and tragic outcome for the pilot and passenger in one of the planes. The picture gives a strong indication as to what...
Thank you. I will call Mr. Rubbert and find out how they handle the cable mounting nowadays. I really like the cowl latches I have now. They are very secure and easy to use.
Thanks!
I did see a post about the Penn Yann conversion where there were complaints about how the the throttle cable was mounted. Is this better in any of the other STC’s?
I did read that the Penn Yann and now the Svenn’s aviation STC use a lower cowl and airbox made by Randy Rubbert. Are...
That is a great photograph. I am sure it is very well built and functional.
What is the view on the differences between the cowls on the Cubcrafters vs the STC’s that reuse the stock cowl latches?
I have seen that link before.
The PA-18 page shows only a normal Supercub with a happy lady standing next to it. http://crosswindsstol.com/wp/?s=Pa-18
The 180HP conversion page shows only a propeller. http://crosswindsstol.com/wp/151-2/
There is a photo album of various planes, most are...
I am curious what the differences are between the 180hp STC cowl designs used in the Crosswinds STOL, Cubcrafters, Penn-Yann, Jensen, and Svenn’s Aviation STCs. Based on research it seems the Crosswinds STOL cowl is really different from the rest but I cannot find more details or pictures. In...
There seems to be a lot of knowledge about the silca bead desiccant based dehumidifiers. Has anyone experience with an electrical dehumidifier like the Black Max one offered by Aircraft Components Inc.?
Black Max and Engine Saver (Black Max=more $)...
How long does the EICU unit last before the desiccant needs to be recharged? I know that varies by humidity, but what would be a good average timeframe? How do you recharge the desiccant? Do you put it in the oven?
Based on the corrosion problems seen with cams and the occasional inactivity by the pilots of those aircraft, are engine dehumidifiers recommended and commonly used nowadays? I have not seen comments on other forums that are very conclusive about the topic so I a hoping there are some good...
Steve,
My mechanic refused to install the chicken head latch I bought from CubCrafters because he said the wing skin was too thin. Do you have any suggestion for a way to install it on a covered wing that the mechanic would find acceptable? My window will not stay open because the cabinet...
