I've been busy for the past few months. The world has changed! Where have the Private Messages gone? Certainly not as easy to navigate there as it used to be.
I'm using a JPI 4-cylinder monitor on my O-320. Airplane sits in an unheated hangar at temperatures down to about -45C (-49F). The display did have a partial failure some years back and was repaired by JPI. I'm not sure if the cold caused it to fail but I'm doubtful on that.
An engine monitor...
Mine are 2500's. Forward cables are to the lower engine mount, rear cables to rear gear bolt and float fitting. That works for me to keep the front and rear cables reasonably parallel - otherwise the pitch angle of the skis will change as you go from wheels to skis. I used Molex connectors under...
It all comes in via tanker from a refinery in Newfoundland in September. The community has sufficient tank capacity to store a year's worth of heating fuel (No. 1 diesel), mogas (91 octane) and Jet A. I have to bring in my own 100LL in drums, again via ship. Fortunately, every community in...
I have two small hunting cabins that are nowhere near "the grid". One had a little 200-watt, old fashioned Wincharger which worked well for about 40-years, and still could with some minor repairs. We now have 850-watts of solar panels and no longer need the wind generator.
The other cabin, used...
I had a set of Aeronef floats on my PA-12 for a few years. They were straights, not amphibs. They performed well but I eventually got tired of pumping them and went with Clamars, which are fibreglass.
Good luck with your project!
Probably this comment is not very helpful, but in Canada, the pilot of an Amateur-Built airplane (Experimental in the US) can simply attach the load (common-sense prevails here!), make a test flight and, if all is well, make a log-book entry to that effect. Then THAT PARTICULAR LOAD...
And you probably won't be. I'm not sure what the consequences would be if they DID check, but I'm guessing that in that unlikely event they would probably just let you go on your way out of the country.
I'm not sure that, as a Canadian, I would want to risk flying into the US though. Your...
As far as I know, there has been no movement on this. We can't fly in the US with our Class 4 medical and, unfortunately, you can't fly in Canada with Basic Med.
This may not be much help to you but maybe to others:
My PA-12 is a home-built. When I carry cargo to my cabin I need all the space I can get, so I remove the rear seat cushions. I built a plywood "cargo floor" that sits on the under-seat storage box and extends to the rear of the front seat...
As pointed out earlier, a very bright LED landing light, mounted as low as possible, is a big help in creating shadows so you will (might?) be able to see the drifts and the surface.
Nevertheless, we have enough dangers when flying in remote places during very cold weather. Enough that I choose...
Now the public will be demanding to know what this "surveillance balloon" was actually carrying.
My guess is that the authorities will say that revealing that information is "not in the interest of national security". Classified. It would be a big embarrassment if it turns out to be (wait for...
I pull carb heat well back from my landing zone and leave it on until short final, then it goes to "off". I want full power if I have to go around to avoid a moose swimming across the lake.
When in cruise carb heat goes on every twenty minutes or so, and anytime I descend.
A couple of times in this thread there has been mention of "potent pain killers", which is something I'd like to add to my first aid kit. I suppose this means something a whole lot stronger than Tylenol. So my question is this: How does one go about getting some of the "potent" stuff, which is...
