    Pa-18 Project. It has begun!

Steve, with regards to the flaps and balanced elevators…. I could find 12263 easy enough for the elevators. But when I start looking at flaps I see my “pa-18-150” parts manual appears to indicate the “150” has metal flaps. Is this accurate?? Can you lead me in the direction of the STC...

    Pa-18 Project. It has begun!

Progress report. Since this is my first project I’m trying very hard not to lose control on mods and things but build a useful certified cub. After a significant amount of time looking at what I have, disassembling the partially assembled left wing, repairing some ribs, locating a few odds and...

What is it?? Where is the diagram??

I believe I found it…. dwg 12446.. I can’t access a clean pdf on my phone at tge moment but I believe that’s it. mean across old thread yesterday stating that they extended inboard flaps (not pstol) weren’t necessarily a good move. will grab existing flaps to evaluate options… thanks...

What is it?? Where is the diagram??

My Pa-18 fuse shows evidence of the piece of channel at the trailing edge of the wing roots being cut off. Maybe this was a previous owners mod for pstol flaps or another flap mod. I’m not thinking my mission will necessitate the $8500 for pstol flaps. I’m looking for the drawing showing this...

    PA-18 wing geometry

After further review….I see that drag strut 5 has the same measurement from the bottom of both front and rear spars. The number 1 drag strut is 19/32 higher from the bottom of rear spar. Just seems counterintuitive with respect to washout… inquiring minds -MB

    PA-18 wing geometry

Working on a pa-18 wing that was partially built. I decided to take the wing apart and start over for a few reasons. In measuring/locating holes for all things drag struts, butt hardware, strut attach points, rib locations and looking at the piper drawings and sturm's drawings I made a...

    Pa-18 Project. It has begun!

Very valid question. This was addressed in a different thread during the initial thought of this project. I live in the southeast. Keep the Maule I currently fly at my home farm strip. The same will be true with the Supercub. Most flying is local to various grass strips and pastures I...

    Pa-18 Project. It has begun!

Heard back from Clyde with fuse info. It is a 1976 -150. Appears to be in mostly stock form. There is an x-brace over the cabin. The rear seat cross bar is removable. Where I want to go from here with help from Bill Rusks list is…. -reverse dog leg -rear baggage door -reinforced tail...

    Pa-18 Project. It has begun!

In 1994 this engine underwent what appears to be an overhaul/rebuild. Logbook entry is quite extensive and referenced work orders which I do not have. Lots of part numbers. Crank case #L-772-39 Acc. Case. #69166 Crank shaft. #68606, Ser# 71500 Logbook states piston numbers 1. SL15357 2...

    Pa-18 Project. It has begun!

Great info…. Thank you!!! I’ve got an email into Clyde Smith with my fuse number to see where it’s from. I intend to keep it certified. That being said, are all of the popular mods available through STC…brakes, wheels, dog leg, wip2000 of course (although I’m sure 1750 is plenty), can the...

    Pa-18 Project. It has begun!

I've made a few posts previously gathering opinions and such on this project. I have finally had an opportunity to transport all the pieces and such to my shop and have begun the inventory process. It appears I will definitely have more questions than answers. It looks like the project started...

    engine mounts

I know this thread is old but in doing some research on a project I have purchased the history shows the aircraft engine was swapped under SA388EA in or about 1975. What I don't know is other modifications to the fuselage. Config II on the STC references drawings JM-10 and JM-11. Who has any...

    Pa-18-150 Project...STC's, TCDS?????

BC12D-4-85- Is there such a thing as TOO LIGHT?? Bob- Looking at cleveland data... Is it NOT legal to run 6" clevelands and AK 31"s on a Pa-18? Just trying to digest the "legal 8:50s and 26” comment.. Also, I don't even know what safety cables are. What are those and what do they do. I...

    Pa-18-150 Project...STC's, TCDS?????

Thank you for the quick replies. Bob- I'm almost certainly not interested in ALL of them. But what you mention is promising. This fuselage does already have an X-brace above the cockpit. I imagine there are quite a few brake suppliers out there. I just have to research who has an option for...
