Tie down anchors...What is in Your Wallet?

Well, duckbills are great in softer soils, and in the bush. But in (for example) Wisconsin, where someone will come after you leave and mow the field where you were parked, the leftover cable loop is not going to make you popular.

    Tire choice.... Need Advice

I would like to weigh in with another point of view here. Everyone talks about percentages. It only takes one time to wreck an airplane. You need to run the tire that will handle the roughest strip you plan to use. Even if you only go there once a year, or one percent of your landings. The...

PA-18 Certified Panel Options Theoretical Discussion

GNX375 is certified, gets you a transponder, all the adsb stuff, IFR GPS, a small map, iPad interface. Then if you really want a big screen it plays well with a G3X.

Do you have a pod installed? Does your exhaust stick out into the airstream, or is it pretty flush? My cub always has zero ppm.

Ramp Checks and Pancake Breakfasts...A Cause of Indigestion?

So, the reason I’ve never been ramp checked is that they take one look at my airplane and think about all the paperwork they’ll have to do?

    Tail Ballast for PA-18

Yes, that is why I had the tungsten bolted to the tail of the RV8. But, I was basically racing straight and level, and didn't care much about optimizing short field and climb performance. As others have said, remove weight from the nose, or shift it rearward, but don't add any.

    Tail Ballast for PA-18

I really don't understand how adding weight to an airplane improves it. If you really want, I have a 33 lb block of Tungsten I would sell you. Bought it from the NASCAR boys when I was racing the RV8. John
