The 26 inch Good year is a fine all around tire that usually outlasts the airplane.
You will buy 3 sets of 850 Air tracks for one set of Good Year 26“ ones.
We run them (26“ Good years) on Cessna 206 Aircraft under a LSTC in Canada and they are tough as iron.
The Michelin is a much superior 850...
Found my blades to be not perfect on the pins they are about 1/3 to 1/2 degree of on one of my props.
I use the pins to do base settings than use the warp drive protractor to get it as perfect as I can.
I did use the digital gauge and lasers etc but the warp drive gauge is the easiest to use...
These issues are usually/often when the material does not age enough before machining and going into service.
Volvo used to age the old cast iron blocks for 2 years before machining. The racing guys use cryo treatment —Freezing to near absolute -0 that is the same as aging the molecular...
Where all the horse power stuff gets messed up is that lycon for example measures the max power at the max redline by Lycoming of 2850 if memory serves me correct. One of our friends had an engine build that was 183 Hp at over 2800 rpm.
He will never ever get to use 183 HP his redline in his...
Get as much info as you can but do not get hung up on details.
You can miss out just as much by following a rigid plan than by not knowing the worth while places to stop.
After all it is supposed to be an adventure.
I usually point it in the general direction know the options along the way...
On the little Continentals the best winter kit is to put an insulating layer around the oil tank.
Our old Mechanic made one out of old Sorell boot liners for my old J 3 . That oil tank does most of the oil cooling hanging down there.
I usually restrict the bottom of the cowl instead of the...
Rear coolers usually run slightly warmer — so that wont help.
There is an other issue. Calibrate your oil temperature gauge before doing anything else.
Yes, Airframes used to be my favourite spot in Anchorage that I never missed anytime we come over.
Now it is not much about Aircraft anymore. The Shipper in the back has more knowledge about Aircraft and parts than the front end staff.
The shop at Merill field was a bit better , but you need to...
Some guys are doing the high compression on the O 300 as well,They may have some relevant experiences.
Knowing these engines a little I would be careful , keep it somewhere down near 8.5 to 1 as was said before.
I would port and polish before going to high in compression.
They are not the most...
I did fill my univair fuselage with oil, it took 2.5 gallons rotated it for a day and drained 2 galons back out. No leaks - welded the drainholes on the longerons shut. Probably outlast most of us just dont bend it .
My guess is they are cross drilled. Seen to many rusted out tubes to not do it.
That gear looks nice like the brake-line tucked in behind he tube - steps where we do not need the long step.
If I build an other one this will be it unless the other companies step up with the same features.
The cub I did fly with a constant speed nearly 30 years ago was sold a couple years later to and old timer bush-pilot.
The first thing he was going to do is rip that stupid constant speed prop off and put a borer on. I talked him into giving the CS a try.
Now almost 30 years later he is in...
I Had a carbed 520 on a 180 for several years, never had much of a issue with carb ice.
They however need the restrictor on the Air filter for cold weather ops.
The power flow on the cub is a different beast, it is the old leading edge exhaust system.
Power flow bought the STC and is building them now. Ours have been totally trouble free (still old leading edge stuff) quieter than the hot rod and the best heater with a second section in the heat muff...
I flew a Cub with the borer for one company and an other with constant speed for the other.
I believe it was a 80 inch Hartzell -- Hands down the better plane to haul a load Cruise at close to 120Mph cruise
(26 inch tires back than were big) and much improved climb.
That thing would climb...
Look at the original bushwacker. Big rocks long props. There is your answer
Mine is just under 1400 pounds on heavy gear and 31s mainly stock right now. We expect to shed about 50 pounds. This winter without trying to hard. The 180 hp one is easier to land on short rough stuff. But will...
