There are more than one type of screw in anchors. Some better than others.

    Bungee exchange

During the annual this fall I found one of the bungees cut/broken just about all the way through. I’d been wanting to change them, but just hadn’t gotten around to it. No putting it off any longer. I’ve usually lifted the plane for gear changes using the lifting eyes at the base of the wings...

    Lower 48 to AK

Closer to home, KOXI (Starke County, just NW of Knox, IN) has a maintained 3,000+ ft E-W grass runway and about the best price on fuel in the area. Depending on where in Ohio you’re leaving from, that might be close to your route. If you’re going through Ft St John, meeting Karen and Deiter...

Float flying is more fun than you can imagine. Have you considered a Lake? Might be more suited to your situation.

    Oil cooler recommendations

There have quite a few threads about oil temp problems. It’s worthwhile reading through those to get ideas of what the problem might be and how to resolve it. There seems to be a bit of black magic to it. What works for one plane might not work for another. Has the oil temp always been high...

    Member vs. Registered User

I notice that no “Registered User” have posted on this thread. Since this one started I’ve gone back through a few other threads and it’s surprising some of the names that aren’t helping fund this site. Come on folks,…pony up.

tools, jigs, fixtures, and other neat stuff

If the diameter of the screwdriver shaft is the same as the brake pad bolts, cut some threads above the point same size/thread as the bolts. Then you can turn the screwdriver into the pad and hold the pad up against the caliper while you get the other bolt started. A long bolt of the appropriate...

    Fire extinguishers for Cubs

The thread about Gary’s fire and subsequent discussion reminded me I need to replace the fire extinguisher in the plane. What are you folks keeping in your planes. I had a small Halon extinguisher, but it’s old and empty. Never used it,…there’s just nothing there anymore. There has to be...

    Bungee exchange

Check out the “Bungee Buddy”. Seems like a reasonably safe and sane way to change the bungees. I should change mine and have been meaning to get one. Available from Steve Pierce, a member on this forum.

    Cowboys and Cubs

I used to get called to help shag bears and moose out that would get inside the security fence at the Dillingham airport. Funniest critter incursion was when a Chihuahua jumped out of someone’s arms and ran across the ramp to “attack” a plane that just came off a taxiway. Honest to God, it was a...

    Fasteners and hardware

Not a pro, but use the right sized good quality screw driver. Keep them separate to use just on the plane. They do wear out. Using a pick to clean out the slots on the screw will allow the screw driver to seat all the way in and helps prevent grinding off the slots in the screw. Get one of those...

    windy outside..palmer ak?

Use both. The strut bracket to repair and replace your old bracket, which may be bent or cracked. And the over the spar tie down to prevent it from happening again.

    Brake master cylinder diaphragm

Others on this Forum have suggested replacing the machine screws with socket head machine screws. Maybe someone will chime in with the size needed. Order a couple extra for the ones you lose under the floor boards when you pass out from standing on your head while working on this. Since...
