Thanks, the track just caught my eye, and I couldn't quite get my head around what caused it. Nice looking spot.

A friend has a Zenith that he painted all white, then got vinyl wrap for color add on. His thought was, get bored with the color, new wrap, though I understand they're not cheap.

Think very carefully, and do some research before considering a helicopter for recreational use in Alaska. Helicopters are prohibited except for special use permitted commercial ops on federal lands...

Interesting looking tire tracks, Dave.....is that an optical illusion or was there some kathumping going on there?

Oops! Yep, youre right Gary. Was getting LS gross confused. But, my point is still valid. And, its been a couple years now since I owned one....
Now, back to the gin....

I'm not sure what you're referring to as "The heavy stuff" when it comes to 11s. My 11 weighed around 850. No electrics, handheld comm and portable GPS and intercom. It was on Airstreak 26 inch...
Don't disagree at all. Price: $3100 plus shipping.
Like I said: The cheapest thing in an airplane is the pilot. In this case, Me.

Couple of points:
Honestly, most PA-11s have a minuscule “legal” useful load. It’s mostly a single seat airplane with gas to go anywhere and a bit of gear. And, yes, I’ve heard of all the 11s...
That is assuming, of course, that you replace the "standard" battery with an Odyssey or other light weight battery.
And, I agree that I wouldn't want a lithium battery under my seat, just yet........
Years ago, we went through a “lightening” program on our heavy Cubs. Lightweight alternators replaced heavy generators (and work better), lightweight starters, aluminum oil coolers on rear baffle,...
Another vote for Steve's gascolator. Good piece of equipment, and a safety addition as well.

The Husky gear's frailty is the streamline cabanes. They'll bend in rebound if you hit something bumpy, as in on skis. We added a cross tube between the cabanes and the main gear tubes to stiffen...

Cheapest thing in an airplane is the pilot.
But those tires have a place, just not yours, maybe. And, that’s okay.

Outstanding! In this time of COVID this and COVID that, it’s wonderful to see someone open a door to opportunity and fulfilling his dream.

I've used the Goodyear 26 inch tires on a few planes, including one 185. They are fine, considering what they are. I think sometimes we take something that was designed for a specific use and try...
Dave, it’s a Desser tire:

Back in the days before GPS, our maintenance types decided remote electric compasses should be installed in our Cubs. These were mounted well out in the wing, through a small rectangular inspection...
Indeed, but there's still moisture in the fuel.

I agree that at -35 C that’s probably as good as it gets. I’ve flown Cubs and Huskys both at those kinds of temps, and what you’re reporting was what I saw. It’s certainly not ideal, but I just...
Well, the fact of the matter is that aviation has always, and likely will, well into the future ascribe to the old saw that goes something like: "You first get the experience, then the lesson." The...
Perhaps, but that place has provided a start for more pilots than anywhere in Alaska, and, frankly, if you go there with the right attitude, it could be some of the best experience you’ll ever have....
Cessna never could figure out a decent way to “manage” air flow over cylinders AND provide cabin heat.
Take the block off plates off, leave them in your hangar/garage, cover the oil cooler with...
I’d get a good, solid resume together, if you haven’t already, get on a plane to Bethel, and, present yourself professionally to all the air carriers operating there.
