LOL. You are right, of course. It's just that I've never actually seen an unmodified PA 12, so I already don't know what to look for.
I saw an interesting PA 12 the other day. One thing stood out: it had extra horizontal fins on the fuselage just ahead of the trim opening.

It had vortex generators and bigger...
Watching for info too. I had pretty much committed myself to lower compression for the same reasons. But I was planning on using electronic ignition anyway.
Astounding. You probably have looked all over, but I saw this:

What kind of cost? I had tubes for an entire bare fuselage shipped to me by truck for a total cost, including materials, of around $1300.
Granted, that was three years ago.
I agree. Just a quick calc shows it could be 1.66 times as heavy.
If a regular bare fuselage is around 100+ pounds, that's a lot of added weight for no benefit.
Thanks for that. I hadn't heard of AAE dipole antennas. Interesting.

I remember that view well. Except the flight line looks different. In the 80s the last row were neglected Taylorcrafts and sad-looking Cessnas.
I had to look up the Utah Tree. I'd never heard of it!

So, more than three months have gone by since my last post. And a little over 3 years have gone by since I started the thread.
I took some time to re-read the thread. I'm struck by how much help...
I agree completely.
Greg, I had been wrestling with various directions to go on my build. Your video reminded me of my original direction. I really appreciate what you've done and how you've done...
They've been kicking that around for quite a while.

I still call it gasahol, LOL.
Our premium e-free is around 3.50-3.75 lately.
100 LL hovers around 4.00-4.30
I guess the premium no-ethanol we get here must be pretty good. A lot of jetboat operators use it and wouldn't put up with something that doesn't store well.
I used to have to use Stabil or some...
I'm glad you posted. I had forgotten about this thread. There is a lot of good stuff here.
How 'bout just find a place pointing into the wind and use rudders and trim? Then put the stick back in.
I suppose if you felt like you could reach the aft stick, that would be preferable to...
Thanks! I just looked that up. Filed it away for future reference.
Right! Of course it doesn't pay, but I'm having fun anyway.
And yes, my fuselage isn't worth as much as those made by one of the big names, but on the other hand, because I spent $1100 or so on...
I'm surprised you haven't run across the Wag Aero 2+2. It's based on the PA 14. You were talking about building, right?
I'm building one now. Marty57 here has one almost done. Tim on the board has...
I had been wondering what was going on in your life. You have been busy! Congrats on your progress on an A&P!
I go back and read this thread from time to time. It has a lot of useful info in it.
Very nicely done!
I also like your channel benders. I think I'll try that--I hand fluted mine but then took them out to reposition the wing hinges.
Thanks for that. My old stomping grounds in the 60s and 70s. I'll have to go back.
Hard to tell from web search, but Backcountry's web site says spars are .011 thicker plus doublers. Christian Sturm's website shows rear spar (10743) for Piper at .060 web thickness and front spar...
