The current ice thickness (rivers/lakes) near Fairbanks is about 42". Our fish are still sleepy.

Local PA-18 that's easy to see

My favorite for pull tests are fixed pitch seaplane props (or ski props in deep snow). Listen carefully as some audibly appear to transition from early "stumbling-popping" sounds with throttle...
How about this gadget placed horizontal? Measure max G-force or acceleration for various props during takeoff? There are likely better gadgets available for that.

As altitude increases the compression ratio of air and fuel stays the same...but effective cylinder pressure is reduced due to lower available air pressure. Heat produced should decline but so will...
Here's the latest Global Forecast System 10 day outlook for North America. Like springing back into winter.

It may snow tomorrow then drop trough to -30F Friday and Saturday nights. Lovin' every minute of it

Actually in Fairbanks the local agencies quickly got with 1'+ snow removal on public roads. That's thanks to excellent NWS pre-warnings of a major (for us) snow event. Now due to forecast low 850mb...
Early April's record snow and current cold in Alaska was forecast several days ahead of its arrival. A major SW plume of moisture came inland from the Bering Sea. Anybody that ignored that...
During warm conditions wheel penetration skis with the ski raised tend to tear things up as well. Have a look sometime at the results of their passing on snow.

This is well beyond topic, but if interested read Chapters 22/27 from this book: http://www.w3pga.org/Antenna%20Books/Reflections%20III.pdf
It describes the antennas used by Sat phones and...
Remember those old yellow EBC-102A ELT's? Mounted them somewhere in the cockpit with attached flexible whip antenna. They seemed to work ok especially when installed near a window or skylight....
Those dipoles can be cut down to resonate on 406 but might require a matched signal splitter or ? to also feed a 121.5 antenna from the same coax. The ELT factory antenna setup takes care of that....
I like those mixture cables that "click" in small steps as the knob is moved in and out. Count the clicks for previous best mixture before takeoff or in flight, then adjust as required.

This might be worth a look for an internal antenna option> http://www.advancedaircraft.com Some comparative signal field strength testing after installation would be interesting.
A homemade...
An aviator neighbor where I park mentioned instead of putting money into IRA's, etc. as time passed he bought airplanes and various landing gear. Fixed them up when required. He was ahead of his time...
The EDO 2000 spreader fairings (and others) would be a good candidate for carbon fiber buildup. They're some sort of plastic and sun eventually deteriorates them unless they're kept painted.
Edit:...
With the availability of belly pods for cargo and fuel, float storage compartments are less of a priority. Unless flush with the float deck they can trip us and get deformed over time. I've used...
Those quick push to open drains are dangerous. The cost more ones that first require a side twist are safer.

The other issue with the .444 was proper factory bullets weren't initially available. They'd fragment quickly as they used common handgun bullets initially. Later speciality loaders like Cor-Bon,...
I had a Winchester AE lever gun in .444 Marlin with a factory ported 18" barrel. The loudest rifle I've heard. One practice shot and the dog disappeared until dark. It would impressively blow flames...
The reason I mentioned scoring was my cam and lifters sloughed enough hard metal to score the pistons and cylinder wall. The oil consumption increased as did carbon on the plugs and piston surface. ...
With exceptions like snow, dust, or smoke going VFR to IFR often involves being in a cloud. Some argue that fog is a cloud near the ground. Been my experience if trying to remain VFR to avoid clouds....
