If you limp home you'll destroy much of the value of the battery pack and therefore the airplanes' value. Diversion decisions would get serious quickly. It's like the iPhone question, do you cut...

Someone just clued me in to Formula E. Great, I thought, a showcase for the pit crews swapping battery packs. Or add 20 points of charge in a minute or two. Anything to show the public how far...
Three systems for three axis', I like having a trigger on the stick to get the whole plane back right now. It's bigger than and above the transmit button.
I have a 2 channel Dynon with AP74 head, it's nice to be able to confirm how many axis are live and cut out the roll axis with one buttton. I use it for altitude hold mostly. The roll can only dip a...
Yes, removing all the AOA makes a huge difference. Has anyone tried a piece of tubing that could be guyed 3ways to jack up the tail? A disc to keep it going too deep and some kind of fitting on...
Which came first, the renaming of the event or the Kunis brothers Airventure Publishing? How'd that happen?
The OP has left the building, but this is interesting. Whether you add tail downforce with mass of steel or catching more molecules of passing air, the effective wing loading as you approach stall...
I had a gas cap at the base of a lexan windshield, replaced the windshield 3 times. You don't need a drop of gas, just the fumes will crack it. If there's any whiff of solvent, lexan will crack.
Why so little interest in tail stands? I would think the first thing would be reducing wind load in the first place. Perhaps a more easily stowed post guyed 3 ways.
Excellent video! This is why its so bad if you fall down on energized ground. Do your hopping carefully. This is why cows are so sensitive to ground currents around the barn. Too much wheelbase.
I like his carbon envelope idea, always thought if I made my own Jeep hardtop I would cover a frame with dacron then lay carbon on top. It would be shaped like a fabric top but be durable, quiet and...
The top wires of transmission lines are ground wires to keep lightning off the phase wires. Backwards from distribution lines. So if you pull the ground down into the phase, a breaker should trip...
I once flipped a canoe while in some whitewater a little too early in the season. The old hearsay muddled my thinking more than the hypothermia. I was desperately clawing my way up the loose bank...
My Whirlwind came with the plywood fixture that holds a digital angle cube. If you're in the field(trying to get off a gravel bar), just wade ashore and cut a gauge stick so as each blade is brought...
A recent thread revealed some old jeepers on the forum, so here goes. There's been an old jeep with my homebrew 3pt hitch sitting between the hangar and strip here for about 20 years. I left it...
I wondered what happened to the Backyard Flyer. It had a wing structure that required aluminum welding, so not really a homebuilt design, but it performed well with a generator vtwin. Gene Smith...
There is one flat-bottomed ultralight wing that will almost hang with the undercambered Quicksilver types: Kolb. Homer Kolb put a lot of effort into testing tips, and he wound up with something like...
Back to 909: I went the NTSB website and the video of the first day briefing states that 100LL was found "in the right wing" didn't say which tank. Mis fueling is the first thing they check.
Awhile back on cable there was a show where actual WWII bombadiers tried to hit a target in the desert. Might have been 909. The conclusion was that currency is everything.
Yeah, stick shakers save idiot crews, not the intention with MCAS. MCAS tried to cancel a slight nose up, but was given lawn dart authority. All to save the airlines a few bucks. And so easily...
I understand the advantage of being visible, but does voluntary get me into towered airports?
Doncha love the Toyota commercial where everyone is yukkin' it up, lovin' life when something happens and the car saves the distracted drivers' bacon? Not just about the car, its a lesson for youth....
There are some clubs marching on. Our club has bought 2 new 2seaters in the last 5 years and the youth program keeps expanding. The planets have to be in perfect alignment and experienced people...
