Comparing two airplanes by time may not work so well, as some planes accelerate quicker, and others lift off slower... the important figure is length...
I had an early 180, light, 250hp Skyways engine, Horton and no VGs. I made a few landings with full load at 500', but ground had to be soft. serious...
I don't disagree that my situation was asking more of the tires than they can do... which is why I believe that they are useless for off airport use....
