Hydrasorb/strut attachment question

MEM-PA12

Registered User
I’m scratching my head over here trying to figure this one out.

Again, I bought an airplane in pieces and have been restoring it. It’s a PA-12 with PA-18 gear 3” extended gear with the Atlee Cabane V. I just got new shock cords on the hydrasorbs and mounted them on the new Atlee strut.

However, when I go to put them on the airplane the bolt holes aren’t aligning.

Also, the holes in the hydrasorb are 5/16” but the cabane vee and safety cable attachment are 3/8”.

Are these the wrong hydrasorbs?

I’m thinking the upper fitting is wrong. I believe the correct fitting to be 12845....maybe? I will call Univair tomorrow.

Can't tell for sure from the photo, but looks like the bolt holes on the hydrasorb are parallel. They need to be perpendicular to each other. The bolt that joins the shock strut to the hydrasorb is 5/16, and the bolts that connect the assembly to airfame and gear are 3/8.

Learning has occurred. The top fitting is from a PA-22. I’ve got to order new PA-18 parts for the tops and have the correct cords put on.

Yep, you have a PA20 or PA22 Hydrosorb.
White one is a PA18 and green is a PA20/PA22.
