View Full Version : Fuel Caps are difficult/impossible to remove and replace

Plane is a CC EX-2. Has extended range tanks if that makes any difference. Fuel caps are standard vented caps like these: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/fuelcap180.php?clickkey=7373

Problem: the fuel caps are almost impossible to remove and then replace. I cannot take them off by hand and have made a tool just for the caps. Can the gaskets be lightly lubed with something?

Fuel Lube

Thanks, that's what I suspected, but being a newbie wanted to make sure.

They quit making fuel lube long time ago I think. This is the newer stuff. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/ezturnlube.php?clickkey=9406

Sometimes a shop will put one of those toilet tank gaskets around the tank neck, and it can interfere. I think the little rubber doily is supposed to be flat - maybe 3/32" thick rubber.

Yes you are correct Bob, and I do have the toilet tank gasket but have verified it is not interfering. The caps are straight from the factory so probably just need some lube. Going flying tomorrow so will grease it up then.

Sometimes you have to take a screw driver and spread the lock tabs away rom the cap as well. I see this on a regular basis.

Good point. The tabs also seem to be dragging (more than usual). Thanks
