Early Cessna 180 stab trim fittings

Has anyone replaced the original stab trim fittings (no bearing, single screw, with rivets) with the newer style (has a bearing, no rivets, multiple screws)? The original part number is 0732101-1. Just wondering if there is technical data that would allow this.

I think I have the same thing as you are describing. I have never seen another 180 with the same and I've looked at a lot. With the newer pivot brackets that use the three flush screws and no rivets, there is a triangle gusset installed in the horizontal for some added beef that the forward flush screw needs. My rivets do not have that gusset on each side. Seems if you add that gusset, it would be strong enough and would work. The bigger hole is where the third flush screw goes. I found this from a damaged stab that I bought and took apart to replace the one I am using. After 15 years, still haven't gotten it done.

I am kind of to the same point. I removed my brackets so I could inspect for corrosion on my restoration project and was thinking that the new style would be stronger. That being said, it has been just fine for 65 years now so I am probably overthinking it.

If you're all apart at this point, I think I'd go with the newer brackets and add the gusset.
