Why sloshing compound stinks

All this yucky stuff came out of ONE float compartment.
This is left over sloshing compound, that was allowed to build up
over several years by the previous owners of these floats.
It only trapped water between the yucky stuff and the aluminum.
What a frigging mess.
This was a lot of work. Doing it all by feel with one arm down inside the
inspection hatch. BTW, the hatches on PK floats are too small.

Good thing you don't have friends that would set a mouse trap in one of the cans.
It was always fun to set one in a gunk tank.

Holy moly!!! Talk about airplanes getting heavier with age.

How much did all that junk weigh?

How do you seal the floats properly without re-skinning them?

Connect a vacuum cleaner to The compartment in question. Brush the sealant on the outside of the seam. It will be drawn into the leaking space.

This is what I do. I pressurize compartments with vac and spray soapy water on outside and mark where bubbles are. Then reverse and suck the sealant in. Be careful with a big shop vac or you might end up with smaller floats, I use a $29 dollar Wallyworld one.
I've had good luck with this http://www.lakeandair.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=2950&Search.x=14&Search.y=7
