Greetings, fellow member…

Well it’s mid June & everything is beautiful in BC (except maybe the gas price) and I hope everything is wonderful in your neck of the woods too. We are gearing up for the 11th annual AGM & fly-in weekend in Nimpo Lake on July 19th & 20th, and it’s shaping up to be another excellent weekend for meeting old/new friends in a fun environment. Ink it on your calendar!

The Annual General Meeting will be from 10:30 till Noon, and then lunch will be served.

After lunch we have an interesting list of guest speakers, including Kevin Psutka, president of COPA, Darren Adams of the Wings Over Canada show (they are planning to attend and film for their TV show), Wendy Boyce (AME, rotary & fixed wing pilot), Roger Stewart of BC Parks, Charlie Russell (Grizzly Guy), and Richard Nye from Nav Canada.

After the (formal) guest speakers will be Happy Hour (refreshments provided) & we will introduce a few storytellers to share some tales with us, & will be asking for volunteers from the audience to share their tales too! Meanwhile the silent auction will be running, with lots of interesting & useful items donated by some of our generous members & businesses. We will be asking for volunteers or nominations for directors, the BCFA always needs new ideas & energy.

Then will be the huge feast that we always look forward to with all sorts of delicious offerings! As soon as everyone is finished dinner we will (again) introduce The Late Breaking News from Williams Lake, an awesome dance band that will get your mojo going! We are very happy to get these guys back again this year. Wear your dancin’ boots & plan to enjoy! (Still refreshments!)

Sunday morning from 0730 to 0830 will be another James’ family delicious pancake breakfast! After that will be a fly-out, either a BC Parks Mission or a Poker Run, not yet confirmed which.

If you still hope for accommodation, call 250 742-3239 or email logan@xplornet.com and I will provide bed availability around the lake, and contact info. It’s camping only here at the resort now, but you’ll be right in the middle of things!

Many thanks to our new Corporate Sponsors this year:

Aero Sport Power (Bart Lalonde) 1-250-376-6213 sales@aerosportpower.com

His engines took 1, 2 & 3 place @ Valdez this year in the "open" category!

ICS Avionics (Ian Hunter) 1-250-376-1121 ian@icsavionics.ca

Well equipped shop/hangar servicing & installing all kinds of avionics since 1972.

Super Cub Discussion Group (Steve Johnson) www.supercub.org

Over 4000 knowledgeable & helpful pilots to talk "SuperCub" (& other languages)

We are again very grateful to Lois & Terry Brandt for the use of their hangar for our event. It wouldn’t be near as much fun under tarps! They have been very busy building & starting their Western Antique Airplane & Automobile Museum in Hood River, Oregon. The first 50,000 sq.ft. building is finished and open every day. The second building is ready to start construction soon. This museum is unique in that all the antique (GA) aircraft are not just static displays, but they fly! Every year, every one of them commits aviation over the Hood River orchards.

Here is Terry flying the pride of his collection. Not a floatplane but COOL. 1917 Curtiss Jenny.

SORRY***(PIX NOT INCLUDED)***SORRY

It was built to train WW1 pilots… typical uses were throwing hand grenades & shooting pistols.

After a lifelong search, he finally found one in a barn in Ohio, parked there in 1926 with plans to restore it someday. The original owner died, his wife kept it because it was his baby, and then the family kept it (until a few years ago) for the same reason… (they knew it was special)

It was totally complete & original, and due to the climate control in the (chicken) barn, had not deteriorated, even the wood wing struts are original, were just refinished. Terry says they replaced the control cables & tires. The fabric is even antique & original linen, found by one of the museum directors in Mexico! Now get this… the serial # is 001. Terry might be coerced into talking about WAAAM at the meeting next month. See www.waaamuseum.org

If you are into antique GA aircraft, you NEED to go to Hood River

We hope to see you at Nimpo Lake this year, we will show you a good time & feed you well. There’s always an interesting array of aircraft to see as well as pilots to share some ramp yack.

Thank you for your support through your membership & etc.
