 Left my wife a note one day that I was going for a plane ride; said I'll call you tonite. First call was from North Dakota ,next nite from Montana, next nite from Wyoming. Sometimes you just gotta go for a nice ride.

HA! I have always loved the phrase "off into the wild blue yonder" as it was one bandied about our household all the time I was growing up. Sometimes in a positive way, and sometimes not :D

It was used in my childhood home, as well. The standard context was a bit negative: "Ya' can't just be runnin' off, into the wild blue yonder, without tellin' mom where yer goin'."

Was your experience similar?
