I have had lift strut bolts (13241-00) on order from Univair for several weeks, but they never show up. Does anyone know another source for these bolts?
This is a special bolt. Piper recently issued a Service Bulletin because they were selling NAS bolts and using washers and they ended up hitting the landing gear. http://www.newpiper.com/company/publications.asp
Yes, it's special bolt. They are correct, a regular bolt could hit the landing gear on rebound. Any idea who else has them? Univair told me two or three people made them.
Last time I needed lift strut bolts I found them at Stoddards. If you need the smaller lift strut bolts (used on the unsealed struts) I have a new set of them at the house.
I have been looking at a Cub that came in to my shop for repair after a failure of the hydra sorb unit. It is equipped with stock gear legs with 1 1/4 in. axels. The lower bungee attach ear broke off, the safety cables held the gear and the prop was not damaged but the "landing" did damage both wing tips and one rear spar.
There are marks on the gear leg that indicate the strut bolts made contact with the leg. The bolts are not marked with the PN called out in the SB. Those Dodge cables work but even with stock gear legs it would be good to install the short bolts. I have heard of some bolts installed upsidedown to get the required clarence.
i still believe this not from bolt looking at picture....
if rear leg went first, as you say, front leg bend would be more front to back direction....
this is just common folded cub gear, once shock maxed out...
the one side of triangle can't get longer(shock & strut), so another side(front leg) must get shorter...
