SPORT CUB FLIGHT TESTS VERIFY ALL PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS, LSA CERTIFICATION SCHEDULED FOR JULY 7th

6/29/2006 Yakima, WA: We are every pleased to report that we have completed all flight testing for the new SPORT CUB and we now have all data in hand for final LSA certification. Vice President Todd Simmons noted “These flight tests represent the third and final component of our overall SPORT CUB aircraft test program. We remind our customers and all Light Sport pilots that the testing protocol that we have put the SPORT CUB through - comprehensive wing, fuselage, and now flight tests - is not an LSA certification requirement. We could have met that low standard by ‘analysis’ alone, but in our view, that is insufficient. As the SPORT CUB is an all new design, comprehensive testing was and is a critical part of the development program, and we have spent the extra time and resources to verify for ourselves and our customers that the new SPORT CUB is proven - by actual testing - to meet and exceed all design, performance, and safety criteria.”

President and owner Jim Richmond added, “We don’t know any other way. This is the same test protocol we used in the certification of the FAR part 23 CC18-180 “TOP CUB” just two years ago. Only actual testing proves that the design and performance characteristics - and the analysis - that the computer tells us are right. We certainly hope that all our Light Sport Aircraft manufacturing colleagues feel the same way. The entire CubCrafters team is justifiably proud of the SPORT CUB test program, and we are glad to share the results with our customers and potential customers.”

Please click to www.cubcrafters.com for short video clips of a sample of some of the recent test flight segments and/or particular aircraft configuration tests. The purpose of the particular flight tests shown here is to confirm the nature of the aircraft’s spin characteristics and its ability to recover from a spin in all flight configurations. At the controls for these flights was renowned Gee Bee air show pilot Delmar Benjamin. In addition to Delmar’s well-documented Gee Bee Racer routine, he is also an FAA DER and is uniquely qualified for this kind of test flying. Remember that in these tests, we are putting the SPORT CUB in some extreme flight attitudes and CG positions for the first time. The airplane is being flown be a highly trained, professional test engineer in closed airspace and Delmar is wearing a parachute and has an emergency egress plan…just in case. Of course none of that was needed, and with the completion of these final flight tests a few weeks back, we now have all the information that we at CubCrafters require for LSA certification.

THIS INFORMATION AND THESE STILL AND VIDEO IMAGES ARE FOR REFERENCE PURPOSES ONLY. DO NOT ATTEMPT. THE AIRCRAFT SHOWN IS NOT CERTIFIED OR APPROVED FOR MANY OF THE TEST MANEUVERS. CUBCRAFTERS EXPLICITLY DENIES ANY AND ALL RESPONSIBILITY ASSOCIATED WITH ANY PILOT’S PARTICULAR AIRCRAFT OPERATION OR FLIGHT MANUEVERING IN ANY AIRCRAFT.
