Thanks guys for the positive chat. I have three Cubs - a L-4 with later wings and a C-90, a Super Cub with 150 hp and this J-5 which I bought as a project in California, shipped out here, had completely rebuilt with Pa-12 wings, new glass, new interior, etc and 0-235. I love all the Cubs and learnt to fly on one. The J-5 is pristine and was great on my conversion flight (we need a different rating for each model!). Unfortunately, on my first solo flight, a rudder cable parted under braking which resulted in full brake on the right and she ended up on the nose. The rudder cable had been badly assembled and the cable pulled out of the crimp! (so I am glad it happened on the ground!). The engine had 430 hours SMOH, but the local engine people look down on US overhauls and want to replace most of the engine at vast expense. So I have had a 0-320 built for it and am about to have the PA-18 horizontal stabilizer and elevators fitted. My question is about whether or not it is necessary to replace the torque tubes. Anyone else got an 0-320 in a J-5A?
