A friend''s cub has too many exposed threads on the upper aileron turnbuckles. Are turnbuckles available that are about 5/16" to 3/8" longer than standard?

Jim,
there are a set of tabs on the bottom of the control stick where the other end of
these cables are attached. You could make a new set with the added length. Use
crome moly of equill thickness and you should be able to get it approved. Wayne
Wouldn't it be easier to just replace the cable then to make special stick attachments and then try to get it approved?
The aileron turnbuckles are not your typical off the shelf style. The forked end is special in that it has longer forks. Without this the fork will "jam" at the ailerons full travel. You may not even be able to get the bolt installed in some cases.
Check the cable routing also. If it has recently been worked on you may find the cable hanging up under a fuel tank strap bolt or ribstitching. This will shorten the cable, and usually causes lots of "drag" as you move the stick. You may be able to hear the "rub". The stick should move very easily if everything is correct and well lubricated.
Ed, You are right, the best way is to install a new cable if that is the problem. The
upper turn buckle is the one that goes down the strut and is easy to check for
proper installation. Sometimes to much diheadral will cause the same problem.
Hope it is fixed with out to much problem. Wayne
Although the L21 manual says no more than 2 threads showing, AC 43.13-1B allows 3 threads. The L21 manual was written for the military, so you can use the AC43.13 number.
