HDHP: Mark Scott - High School Students Build a Real Airplane!

Wilcox Technical High School students as well as those from surrounding schools teamed up with the Meriden Chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (www.eaa.org) to build an RV-12 airplane at Meriden airport. The program was called Teens to Flight. We started in September 2015 working Monday evenings 6-8pm and Saturday or Sunday mornings 9-12. In 2016 we completed the vertical tail, rudder, horizontal tail, anti-servo tabs, and fuselage. The fuel system, electrical wiring, and controls were started in late 2016. By mid 2018 the engine and avionics were fully installed. First flight was May 2020. About two dozen kids participated in the program. A number of them have moved on to engineering or other technically related educational programs.

HDHP: Mike Kincaid - Alaska Summer Vacation - Learning

A short break from college ended up with an accidental trip to Alaska where Mike landed a summer job in Denali Park. Falling in love with the great outdoors lead to a new life in Alaska. Bush Pilot Don Sheldon introduced Mike to Supercubs, which opened the wonderful world of flying, which led spending a year in a remote cabin, then to a job guiding, and eventually to a career with the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

Hump Day Hangar Presentation: Flightline TV was a Minnesota based television production company that produced a 30 minute aviation themed magazine. The show covered everything from ultra-lights to jets and pancake breakfasts to the world’s biggest air shows. We didn’t just feature aircraft we showed how they are part of a larger community and how their owners and operators put them to work and play through our innovative program. We also led the way for aviation video capture on the leading edge of personal action cameras and their development. Co-host of the show Paul Jackson will be speaking about the journey the show took two friends on and the share some insights on video capture and the lessons learned from the show both in the air and on the ground.
