A friend just sent me this picture, does anyone have any details? I did a quick scan of the on line news and found nothing. Hope everything turns out OK...looks like it could have turned out worse... I'm thinking surgical seat cushion removal!

Taylorcraft. Looks more like a missed mountaintop TAKEOFF, though.
Getting out must have been a LOT more exiting than the takeoff attempt, though.

I think I'd try recovery with a couple of big wide track snowmachines instead of a helicopter. I'd be afraid of the rotor wash blowing it over.

Just heard from a very reliable source that the photos were taken from the 212th air guard rescue helicopter. Evidently there were two guys and they were picked up by another pilot before the they arrived.
Rumor is that they are trying to recover it using snow machines. (not verified.)
Looks like a very "near death experience" to me. (Should send them to church on Sunday) _________________ Ed |

They both need to go buy lottery tickets - walking away from that one is about as lucky as you can get.
I'm still trying to figure out how they crawled outta that thing without ending up down the mountain. _________________ Mike |

The word is "...it needs a wingtip bow and a gear leg..."....."...The heli pilot is a heck of a driver!!!...."
That is all I know.

I don't think risking them(snow machines) would be a good bet.... that $$$ would buy many good shovels, anchors and come-alongs...
but honestly up is the only option I can figure/see... and a come-along from there doesn't have the required strait "up" option....
so a helicopter is i$$$$.... and if its in a park... they will bill you if you don't do it yourself?..... gonna be one expensive t-craft weekend...... _________________ Videos http://www.youtube.com/user/mcsrepair Pictures http://picasaweb.google.com/mike.skup www.mcsrepair.com www.skup.com

Is there a door on the left side or did these guys have to climb out on the downhill side. That would be scary.

I seen that valley guy set them down sooooooooooo gentle... much nicer than the landings..... think I have a picture or 5.............
.
and if it only needs a leg and a bow they(FAA) can't even score it as an accident, just an incident..with a capital "I" ......and don't even have to put it in writing unless they request it...!!! wow!
.
hmmmmm... for some reason they didn't take the snowshoes tied to the downhill wing when they left it......

On this video, Greg "nailed" several hill top landings, continuing the OHIO BUSH PILOT series. Make sure the HD option is clicked to OFF for much faster down loading.

snow is SLIPPERY down here....
Those photos flashed before my eyes today
The end is about sixteen paces forward of the skis!
I took my mechanic for a ride!

| It is the real deal! I have a picture in my mind of what the two souls on board saw as the bird came to a halt. From what I understand, if they had continued over the edge it would have likely been" lights out"... |

The other guy in that shop and I went for his first ski flight a week or so ago, I turned it over to him and signed his biannual at the end!
My view is that the mechanic is the most important person. Pilots are cheap (both ways), but a good mechanic is hard to find.
