Well, its started, the experiment

Thanks for the reply’s

Yes I have added seat belt tabs on the bottom and upper for inertia reels.

I opened the box up and yes it is motor, I’m planning on routing the indicator up in the left wing root panel. I’m also planning on getting the vertical power VPX system coupled to a g3x. That system should also populate trim digitally.

Looking back at my projects the worst “miss” was not adding provisions for cargo tie-downs in the baggage area in my old -12 prior to powder coat. Lesson learned. I have Ancra plates on added structure in my Cub. Consider what you’ll carry and add hard points for securing your loads.

I 3d printed these up for a guy and was planning on using them for a cargo net. I’ve also got tabs to weld in for L track mounts. I don’t plan on putting heavy items in there but it would be nice to secure it properly during flight

Thanks Denny. Yes I have placed channel in place where the baggage doors will be. Thanks for the offer for the hinge material, I have some of that already.

All you need for trim is a string potentiometer at the jackscrew. The G3X will indicate it. You can set ticks for limits or favorite trim positions.

The G3X works with Vertical Power. Garmin engineers prefer independent circuit breakers but I think the install manual mentions Vertical Power and I know one member here at least that’s used them together. One Garmin guy described it as having a computer run a computer. What could go wrong? ;)

Computer on computer is a good way to put it. It simplifies things for me since I’m starting from scratch and have no components. The layout of my dash has the 10” g3x with backup altimeter, turn cord and airspeed incase electrics fail.

All it replaces is breakers. My panel has lots of breakers while elpcub’s Vertical Power equivalent had almost none. FWIW, if you add a GDL your smart phone has lots of backup capability. When I asked a Garmin engineer about adding a G5 for a backup he said my iPhone was a better choice. I took that to heart and my iPhone has a place directly above my GDU. I use the GDU in EIS mode and the iPhone for moving map more often than not.

Does Vertical Power have backup power? I’m sure it’s a power conditioner, which the G3X needs, but you’ll want a battery backup. I don’t know if Vertical Power provides that. Truth is I don’t know anything about Vertical Power.

As far as i know the vertical power unit does not have/or provides its own power. there will be a backup battery system for both g3x/vpx system in case of failure.

It also appears that the vpx has some sort of built in logic/proccess as you are able to update the unit and it comunicates with your EFIS. It has a built in function for controlling lights, wig wag and such. It can also warn you via the EFIS display if there is a fault with your electrical system.

I had also considered the g5 for a backup but when compared to what i can do with garmin pilot on iphone/ipad i did not considered the g5 worth it.

I’m told they can be had at: Summit Windows.. the guys name is Stewart Barns. They’re in Anchorage.

It’s been awhile but managed to get everything welded up and off to powder coating. Came back looking really nice, now just have to put it together lol D11AE93E-D49A-4867-AA97-4A59EF24C3D3.jpg

A little up date since I’m waiting on parts. Cerakoted some of the parts parts I do have, colors are coming out nicely.

I have also hade some miscellaneous hardware made from titanium, it was actually alot cheaper than buying the pma parts. For example: hold down plates for floorboards, brake pedals, etc. univair cost $10, cost to have them cut from grade 5 titanium just under $3. Cost for me to make them myself from scrap metal, just under $2 plus the time. I did have to create a dxf file with fusion 360 but that took all of a couple of minutes. 5AFBFC56-3148-4295-A716-0F6148B5AD99.jpgC39CEE08-1C67-41D4-B8C2-046908C2DAC8.jpgE66A0697-81BE-4C59-8285-494DF7813340.jpeg
