2015 North East Ski flying & Fly Ins

Now that Glenn has a new friend that should take the pressure off the rest of us.

Smooth and sunny in the Adirondacks today. Met Jeff today parked on a pond with a really nice 18 that he bought last summer. 4 cool hunting camps on the water. We chased each other thru a bunch of cedar valley flows. Landed at Inlet where they had a big ice hockey tournament on the lake. I checked out over 20 places we can land on Sunday even if your on bush wheels
10am at Speculator if your in for tomorrow. 122.75

Glenn
Glenn I had a great time Sat, just joined and wanted to thank you for the nice pics of us on BCL. Hope this weekend we get another day like we had! Talk to you soon, look forward to doing it again, Jeff

Welcome Jeff, If that is Roger's old Cub it sure is a good one, my father did the rebuild. Glad to see her getting used. Be careful hanging around with Glenn he can be a bad influence. When we all go to Lock Haven I park my Cub in a hanger because I'm afraid someone will piss on my tie down ropes. Scott...

What do you skiers consider to be the most favorable type of plane for ski flying. Is it light weight? I'm looking at a set of Datum's for my Bearhawk but at 1370 lbs I'm not sure it's the plane to think about for skis, at least for my first ski experience. The tail is relatively heavy also, about 100 lbs, good for some things but maybe not skis? The LSA Bearhawk is under 800 lbs, probably a better candidate? Just thinking but with the good Canadian exchange the Datum's are looking good.

A non electric C85 -0200 Champ is a great ski plane. I had a C90-8 chumpster that was comfortable while in winter cloths, made great heat and the oleos suck up the bumps. Tail is about 30lbs heavier then a j3 or 11. I had a C90 pa11 at the same time and would switch back and forth each weekend. What ever you go with light is a must.

Dave, the Bearhawk LSA would make a great ski plane, like Glenn says the lighter the better for what we do. Your plane would do fine, you have your wife to help if you get stuck😆

What model Datum's would be best suited to a CC, Sport Cub at about 885 lbs. empty in New England?

Thanks, Glenn

Probably the 2000 series, go to there Web site and look
Google Datum, you'll find it

In Alaska when there was a big following of wolf hunters, a real favorite was a standard PA 18 / 95 with the extra 18 gal tank in right wing for about two extra hours of flying over a 150 cub, with 2500 series skiis, and 3000 series tail ski, an no electric sys, they were touted as the " wolf hunters machine"
I have heard the number 850lbs thrown around for an empty weight without an electrical system, but the two I flew were both factory
Elec, and much heavier than that. Course the PA11 is an all time champion as a skiplane and always will be, mine weighed 829 on digital scales and worked super in DeeP snow, would still like to try a non elec 18/95 as the guys that had them swore by em?
Anyone on here got a factory non- elec 18/95, that can confirm what they actually weigh??

Fillings lost: 1 on Baboosik Lake by Rene.
