C-85 Lifter Bodies

Never seen this before - all eight lifter bodies have a little ridge preventing the pushrod cup from coming out. Even if we force the cups out, not sure we can get the lifters themselves out. Any ideas? Did Continental seal these things for a while?

Bob, look at your parts and your parts book closer. That is a wire circlip in a groove. Push in on the pushrod socket a little bit and it comes out pretty easy with an o-ring pick. C series, E series, and O series use them. A series did not but the groove might be there if you want to add the circlip and keep the pushrod socket in place. New circlips are only pennies. I've not had any other Continental tappets apart.
