    Tailwheel

Aviation Products Inc. Tailwheel. 1&1/2' Tail spring. Perfect for J-3, Part 3 Airplanes, or Experimental. Never, ever, go flat or shimmy. This is the best tailwheel you can have other than for tundra and sandbar use. Zero maintenance or shimmy problems. We operated them on PA-12's and said good by to rebuilds, shimmy damage and flat tires. This type is used on Extra 300 and Pitts. Brand new never used. $75 bucks. What tailwheel did you have before that one? I was thinking of doing the same thing.

I pulled my Baby Bushwheel off just for the Hondo STOL contest. Couldn't wait to put it back on. I felt every bump and that solid Maule digs in and makes it real hard to turn around on the gravel bars around here.

I'm not brave enough to power around a turn on a gravel bar with the tail up. I'm hard enough on the prop as it is.

Those API tail wheels are very good, had their 6” installed until I started trenching and moved up to a 3200.

Why not just put a spring on upside down and no wheel like the old planes had. Might have to put spacer under rear mount. Maybe a uhmv replicable block on it... for competition use. Or carbon fiber one instead of spring steel... take tail wheel steering arm off.

Too much PITA moving around, putting in the hanger etc. I'm lazy and it makes my lower back hurt just thinking about it. Do remember Breeden's doing that on the first experimental Glacier Cub they built. I think it had an oak skid. Got Bobby a little attention from the FAA at Valdez that year from his operation of it on the ramp.
