I bought a plane with the same float fitting installed. Ended up machining a couple of parts to make them work. Not the best picture but all I have right now.

That looks to mirror the bolt on fittings.

I would bet if you got the drawings for the bolt on it would have the attachment depicted.
 
Gives a little more flexibility if your spreader bars are fixed.

As rigid as you think your float installation is there are a lot of rolling stresses placed on the above fitting where it is welded to the longeron. In smooth water this is not a big concern. How many of you only fly on smooth water? When the water is rough there is a lot of continual back and forth stress placed on the weld of this fitting which could promote cracking. Unfortunately the edge of the weld where cracks would start are hidden under fabric. This should be a regular inspection location.

The fitting below is a better choice since the rolling motion and stresses are absorbed in the hinge bolt. The weld on fitting as shown in the Northland drawings is designed for a hinge bolt to attach the strut.

Gives a little more flexibility if your spreader bars are fixed.

True, yet they are still a hinged load relative to the fuselage longerons. Also remember that the primary load on these fittings is compression which is why those little clamps are sufficient..
