Looks like Faribault MN airport just got hit bad. Look at the radar, goes the entire length of the lower 48. Was a 35 degree difference in 200 miles. You guys good down there in southern MN?
Just got a msg from a friend who is a retired Northwest captain. Bob drove by his hangar in FBL and sounds like the airport is a mess. Could see a couple walls of his hangar standing. Not sure about his Super D and the 140.
Havent heard of any injuries - morning will reveal the damage.
That sucks!! Just got back home from being away for a few days and come in right as they showed an airport damage on the news. Didn't catch which airport, but guess it was there.
I received this email this morning from the Airport manager.
Stanton Airport is closed for normal business tomorrow! We sustained major damage from the storm tonight - many trees down, hanger doors damaged, glider trailers rolled over, etc.
For safety, security and insurance reasons, anyone coming to the airport tomorrow must check in with me upon arrival.
We had a very productive day today cleaning up from the storm damage. Thank you very much to the 32 hard-workers who voluntarily showed up to help. Trees and branches were cut up and piled up, miscellaneous debris was picked up, and the initial assessment of damages to buildings was done. Power was restored by Goodhue Coop Electric in record time.
Normal operations will resume on Sunday with runways open, fuel pumps on, and limited Stanton aircraft available (due to buckled and inoperative hanger doors for a few aircraft). MN Soaring Club activities will go on as scheduled. Internet service has not yet been restored so scheduling and AWOS systems are still down. We will appreciate your patience as we work to get back to full services and make repairs.
