Bungee Covers

I always hate removing stock bungee covers to inspect the bungees, hydrosorbs and lower shock strut. The last Super Cub I rebuilt is mainly stock and he wanted the factory covers put back. I used 4-40 nut plates and screws forming the nut plates to the shape of the end caps which meant bending the flange out in order to squeeze the rivets in the nut plates. Although it was a pain to do it paid off on the first inspection as they were super easy to remove and reinstall without any stripped out holes. I still prefer my Univair snap and Velcro covers but this worked out pretty well.

I assist in my annual and hate that part of the job. Somehow I am always the donkey upon which the tail is pinned. I thought about epoxying some plastic tabs in there so the screws would have something to bite. Next time a Hydrasorb pukes I'm going AOSS. I just wish Burl would put some trailing edges on his shrouds.
