    1953 Cessna 180 rudder fairlead

Does anyone have an early model airplane that still has the original rudder cable fairleads in the aft fuselage? The parts manual shows a S338-6 fairlead on the aft bracket and mine does not have one. I believe my whole setup was probably wrong given the place where the cable had sawn through the bracket. This applies to serial numbers 30000 to 32150 and the item in question is on page 283 of the IPB item number 22. Thank you!

On your bracket on the left side (of my picture) do you have a bolt that holds a round fairlead?

I do not have the parts manual but that looks as though there should be pulleys there rather than fairleads. There are holes for the bolt and the cotter safety pin visable.

    Silflexer.

That number 22 fairlead is located at the bulkhead at the aft edge of the cabin floor.

the bracket that is sawn thru holds pitch trim cables.

The sawn thru area is not uncommon. It is caused when someone crawls outta the tail from working back there and has pressed rudders Right hand cable down and it springs back directly under that pulley bracket. (rudder rh cable, but on airplanes left side before it crosses over toward rh side of rudder horn.

when rigged and tensioned, this all makes sense

Had to dig my IPC after looking at post #5.
Not sure of just where they are located (can't remember and no station shown in the illustration),
but at the first deflection point aft of the pedals the rudder cables have a fairlead on the LH cable and a pulley on the RH,
the next point aft it's a fairlead on the RH and a pulley on the LH.

Here is what it looks like on my 54. The two middle pulleys are the elevator and the one closest to the battery goes through the hole in the trim bracket two bulkheads back and to the bottom of the elevator bellcrank. The pulley farthest from the battery goes to the left rudder and the fairlead to the left goes to the pulley one bulkhead back and then to the right rudder. The little pulleys are the trim and stay with their respective side and pulleys two bulkheads back.
