    Defoliation. Agent Orange alternative.

Actually, I have to do 2 hours and 15 landings with a CFI for insurance. Let's see how badly I can scare him.

I have to call Garmin Monday and find out how to get the GTX 335 to talk to the G5, MVP-50, GTR 225, and the E-04. The GTX 335 has three RS-232 outputs but there are a zillion protocol possibilities.

    Wish me luck.

I would like to add a GFC 500 autopilot but it isn't approved for the 180 yet. It is approved for the 182. Are the airframes much different?

Pitch system on 180 uses a trimming stabilizer. The 182 uses a trim tab on the elevator. Thus a different pitch control on the autopilot.

That is part of the differences. The trim system has operationally different loads. They may not seem like much to us as pilots but for systems certification they are enough different.

Garmin was very helpful. Turns out I did not have the latest installation document. MapMX from GTX 335 to G5 and GTR 225.

Airforms baffles? No shroud on #5 or just not installed yet? I like the shield on #6. Most of us have to fab our own.

I see you have a JPI monitor. Most of the fun of a 180 motor swap is working through temp issues. Enjoy!

My 180 has a scoop/duct on the lower cowl/ right side. It is made of fiberglass. I don't see it in the parts photos. The open end points downwind.
    1. Is it an add-on?
    2. What is it's purpose?

It looks like there was a flange riveted on at some point. Right side? Maybe a negative pressure outlet for the cabin heat box to pull heat out during the warm months? I can’t think of anything else that would use an outlet like that.

It has a hose flange on the inside. There was no hose attached to it. I removed it to strip and paint the cowl.

Eddie, since you are painting the cowl anyway just make a flush patch using flush rivets, a little filler to smooth over any imperfections and paint it. You will like it better than an inoperative scoop.
