Looking really good at this point, and I don't see much snow in the forecast. We will update here. We hope we get a good turnout of folks from your area and DTL!

We are starting to firm up the details for this weekend's Zorbaz Zki Plane Chili Fly In...and it is gonna be chilly!

Little Sand Lake conditions: Thick ice, about 3-4 inches of snow on the ice. It is gonna be very cold between now and Saturday, with very little snow forecast during this period.

It has been decided that this will be a ski plane/potentially big tire event. No runway will be plowed. Rod Syverson has kindly loaned his "groomer" to the Zorbaz Raiderz" (Robb Swanson, Rod Syverson, Thom Peterson, Paul Johanning and yours truly) to knock down any drifts/snowmobile trails, but no attempt will be made to get the landing area ready for anything other than skis and big tires.

Please do review Brian's thread on "Snow Landings"...http://www.supercub.org/forum/showth...-Snow-landings. There are some very good tips listed there. For Big Tire Folks...Consider putting more air in than usual (Brian's point #3!)

Robb will provide updates beginning Thursday regarding snow conditions, and we will all be watching the aviation forecast. It is going to be pretty darned "brisk" out there, but Robb promises the chili will be just right for warming the soul and the spirits! At a very reasonable $5 per bowl of chili, you can't beat it!

    Hope to see you there!

    An update...

Robb sent me a photo of the snow conditions, indicating 5" snow on Little Sand Lake. It looks like the forecast shows little more snow than that between now and Saturday morning... with this in mind, ski planes...no problem. Big tires...likely no problem. Small tires...not recommended.

We will update again tomorrow evening.

Here is a depiction of the landing area on Little Sand Lake, the banks of which Chateau Zorbaz sits...

The view from this photo looking at about 020 degrees. The winds are forecoast at 360 at 6. Please keep in mind that the trees pretty much block the wind, making runway 22 OK. We will update the forecast Friday night, and again early Saturday morning.

It is likely to be pretty brisk out there, folks, so bringing a blanket for your engine while you swill down the chili would be a great idea.

Please note the parking locations. We will station a couple of aircraft close to Zorbaz, to serve as a guide for where to park your aircraft. IT IS GOING TO BE DANGED COLD!!! It will behoove you to park close to Zorbaz!

The high is forecast to be 5 degrees F. With this in mind, those of you who are flying in from Florida should bring some really warm clothes. For those of you who are from MN, WI, ND, you may want to bring your longer bermuda shorts and a tank top. Point being, dress appropriately. For those of you who are piggy-backing a trip to Zorbaz Zki Plane Fly In onto a trip to the Zuperbowl, this will be important! We are beginning to hear the high pitched whining sounds from the TV personalities, describing how cold it is in the Twin Cities... Well, subtract about 5 degrees F from the temp from MSP and you will have Park Rapids!

I'm not saying that the chili at Zorbaz will raise your engine's core temperature a degree or two, but it will surely make you ready to face the conditions that will likely keep the likes of Steve Johnson and Steve Pierce and Lance Kiger and Steve Eaton and Kirby Crowe and Dennis Smith and others from down yonder away. That makes for more chili for you and for me! Just sayin'!

I'll give an update tomorrow, and in the meantime please keep your stick on the ice, don't put your tongue on the windsock pole, and stay tuned!

    Speedo's, G44. Speedo's.

Of course, we will need to wear sunglasses if you come down with Speedo's, lest we scar Park Rapids people for life...

Randy, Wish I could, really I do, but I’ll just have to see how cold I can get around here this weekend which hasn’t been all that difficult this winter. Kirby

Robb and Zorbaz Raiderz have decided to postpone the Zorbaz Chili Fly In for one week. The event will be held on Saturday, February 10 at the same time and place.

The combination of a forecast of low ceilings and vis, with brisk temps, made this kind of a no brainer. We support Robb's decision and hope you will put Saturday, February 10, on your calendar!

All the details stay the same, but it looks like a "All Systems Go!" from Zorbaz Central Command! Saturday, February 10, from 11-2, folks. We will post an update on snow conditions on the lake as the date approaches. Robb hopes to see you there!

Small group today weather no doubt responsible. I would have flown myself but not enough information provided on conditions for me to make that determination. Tires would have been ok as there is much less snow in PKD than my place. I rode shotgun in a ski-plane and ordered pizza. Where the heck are the Syverson brothers? And Randy? Rumor has it they are someplace warm.

Frozen sewer lines wrecked my flying plans for today. -14 temps making a miserable job pure hell. Still not thawed and hopiing for better luck tomorrow. Wished I hadn’t gave my two holer away few years ago. Rod
