C-180 skis

One of these years When we get deep snow, I'd like to try a set of skis on my 180 (54 model)
I have a set of Landis 3600 Wheel penetration skis sans hardware and rigging but I'd prefer to try a set of wheel replacement skis first.
Altho the Gross Weight is 2550, has anyone legally put a pair of Federal 2500s on a C-180? they seem a lot beefier that the Aero 3000s

Lostsa time on Aero 3000's on 180's and -18's. Favorite all time ski.

ssleek for good cruise numbers.

good surface area for flotation, especially if wide plastic installed.

relatively wide and short and especially have nice rocker profile for great turning ability.

Light weight.

Landes/Airglas 3000's:decent flotation especially with wide plastic. hell for stout. but......a long straight run that doesnt turn as well as Aero and have at least a 10 pound weight penalty per side versus Aero. Pedestal height anemic.

....open season for opinions Brian

I agree with Dave...hard to beat Aero 3000 skis, for all the reasons he noted, plus they are relatively inexpensive.

That said, it depends on what sort of snow conditions you have. Short wide skis work well in deep snow, but in rough snow in open country, long and narrow may work better.

We had an old timer her that ran federal 2000 for 25 years on his 54 180 said he didn't give a sh#t about the paper work

Thanks for the info guys.
I've got a set of 3000's on my Super Cub.
I've got a set of 2500's just sitting around.
Don't have any intentions of using the 180 on skis for work or travel. Just to play under the right conditions. ( soft fluffy and deep)
I don't want to buy an extra set of 3000s and if the conditions are that good, probably will be wanting the 3000s on the SC for work.

Ha Ha !!! thought about that option too but will probably pass.
(my neck is too stiff to keep looking over my shoulder any more)

43.13-2B chapter 5. The load formula is suggested, not regulatory, right? They say the ski needs to be rated appropriately for static load. Wanna run 2500s? Fly light.

Why not?

OK How about some c-180 rigging attachment pics. I'll see what I can google .
Most common one I've seen is with the tab riveted high on the boot cowl.

It starts with attach fixtures. My 180 used to have the clamp on the gear attach fixtures. Those were tossed and replaced with Atlee Dodge fittings the first year I had it.

Stewarts top photo is of a latemodel 180.

The early model upper tab is a different shape to accomodate the early model "upper engine mount channel" structure.
