The latches on the cowl also pretty worn. Is there a rebuild kit to get the fasteners to catch a little better. My wife flies the plane as well and not that mechanical. The only way to take a fuel sample from the engine sump by opening me cowl? Still learning
I admire folks who can align these cowls. That is the real key to easy fastening. I never have figured out Dzus/Southco, etc. I converted my Decathlon to 10-32 and bought an electric screwdriver. Happier!

Stock PA12 cowl used Dzus fasteners. A lot of the WWII aircraft used them. I welded an old Dzus fastener to a slide hammer to adjust the spring it kicks into. A real bear on warbird when trying to cowl them up and the last Dzus won't catch.
